Ross Newell, now touring as a solo artist is best known as lead singer and songwriter in The Mulligan Brother from Mobile AL, a band that has toured throughout the U.S. and Europe. His song writing weaves heartfelt tales of love and loss into complex yet comforting storytelling, the combination of which will leave you nostalgic for something (or someone) that you can’t quite put your finger on. With a remarkable universality, you could as easily imagine the tales spilling from the mouth of a storied, laugh-lined old man as his teenage grandson grieves his first heartbreak. He sings and plays about where they’ve been in a way that makes us all realize we’ve been there, too. Songs written and performed by Newell have over 15million combined streams on Spotify.
“Singer/songwriter Ross Newell bring a warmth and finely crafted talent to the experience and the superb vocal tone of Newell is without doubt one of the finest live voices I have heard in some time. Newell is a fine writer and his eye for a couplet is as finely honed as ever. ” — Paul McGee, Lonesome Highway Magazine
Opening for. Ross is ACMA member musician Elizabeth Reece Lockhart
Elizabeth Lockhart was just six years old when her voice brought chills to audiences during solo performances as she delivered gospel music with a rich, full vocal range. She was selected to open for Reba McEntire at age 12 and chose to study Opera Performance at North Carolina School of the Arts, reaching the professional status of opera singer. Elizabeth spent most of her early career performing and teaching classical music, theatre and art song literature. But it was when she found folk/roots music that she was inspired to develop her self-taught guitar and writing style. Reminiscent of 60’s folk revival women icons such as Joan Baez, Judy Collins, and Joanie Mitchell, Elizabeth Lockhart delivers this type of quality performance. She has the ability to tug at a listener’s heart strings through her haunting melodies, stories and rich vocals.
