SUMMARY:Ruth Wyand in Concert! Bill Veach Opens
DESCRIPTION:Being diversified is Ruth Wyand’s specialty. Demonstrating guitar virtuosity with powerful fingerpicking\, bottleneck slide and a warm alto voice Ruth plays a mix of Americana\, jazz\, blues\, folk\, country with a portion of Piedmont picking and bluegrass clawhammer thrown in. Her songwriting is universal\, using a melting pot of styles with lyrics that are timeless\, relatable\, emotionally resonant\, sometimes witty\, sometimes serious but always human and genuine.\nRuth presents a mixture of originals with poignant lyrics as well as well-crafted instrumental arrangements of classics ranging from Doc Watson\, Etta Baker\, Jimi Hendrix\, Leo Kottke to Thelonious Monk and Nina Simone.\nRuth’s songwriting is timeless\, relatable\, and emotionally resonant. Her lyrics and stories along with her sense of humor will bring a smile to your face or a tear to your eye and her skillful command of the fretboard never ceases to amaze audiences of all ages.\nWyand has toured extensively throughout the United States\, Britain\, New Zealand\, Kuwait and France and has won numerous awards for guitar and songwriting including the Gamble Rogers Fingerstyle Guitar Competition\, the South Florida Folk Festival Songwriting Competition and the Hank Williams Songwriting Award.\nEach song\, no matter how different\, has a firm Ruth Wyand stamp of style on it.\nListen to some of Ruth’s music:ruthwyand.com\nOpening for Ruth is ACMA Member and singer/songwriter Bill Veach. Bill was a drummer in a rock band in college\, but guitars are easier to move and make for better neighbors so he spent $100 of his precious college beer money on a flame red acoustic guitar. Moving was a part of his life for years\, with a love of travel that is expressed in many of his songs. His songs are often autobiographical\, about his experiences\, travel\, love\, loss\, hurricanes\, and some characters he has met on his journey. Bill is a Western boy\, raised in Colorado and lived in Utah and Wyoming before becoming a full time resident of Fort Myers Beach. He became active writing songs as part of the Cheyenne Guitar Society in Wyoming and finds inspiration in the camaraderie of the ACMA Singer Songwriter Circle on Sundays. Bill has never met a genre he didn’t like\, and his style varies from slow finger picking to channeling that college drummer through a guitar pick.\nBill’s music can be found on billveach.com.\nTickets for this show are available at the door.\nDoor Donations:ACMA Members – $15General Admission – $20\nDoors at the ACMA listening room open at 6:30 pm and the concert begins at 7:00 pm.

SUMMARY:The ACMA @ The Alliance for the Arts... Concert ...Kray Van Kirk\, Frank Corso opens
DESCRIPTION:Doors at 2:30 \nShow at 3:00 \nTickets at www.artinlee.org \n$18 for ACMA members/$22 General Public. \nThe ACMA Alliance Concert series for March proudly presents Kray Van Kirk a fine finger-style guitarist with a precise baritone\, Kray Van Kirk has a Ph.D. from the University of Alaska\, but he set science aside to write songs\, tell stories and summon heroes. \n“We are driven by myth and the seasons of the heart\,” he says\, “and the stories are all true. There is a dark cave inside each of us\, and monsters of all kinds lurk there\, all the more lethal for being hidden. The quest is to journey inside\, render the monsters powerless\, find whatever it is that burns at the core of your soul and bring it back into the light. In a world divided it is critical to write songs and tell stories that show absolutely everyone they get to be the hero. Nobody is left behind.” \nThus his songs: Thunderbird resurrects the Phoenix in an empty desert diner in the American Southwest (yes\, the Phoenix drives a Thunderbird)\, The Queen of Elfland plucks Thomas the Rhymer from the English-Scottish border in 1250 and drops him and the Queen into a subway car\, The Library Song has Superman moonlighting among the stacks\, Rosa and Hector ride through Sherwood Forest on canes and a wheelchair\, and The Midnight Commander celebrates an insane old man leading the city of New York to take up arms (and underwear) against hatred. \nOf this charming\, Quixotic\, and decidedly eclectic performer\, the Borderline Folk Club in New York wrote “it is what every singer-songwriter should aspire to. \nhttps://krayvankirk.com  \nFrank Corso has been performing early Country blues and Ragtime finger style guitar\, focusing on the styles of people like Robert Johnson\, Blind Blake\, Reverend Gary Davis\,Tampa Red and others. The originals that he writes draw their roots from this style also. On banjo\, he has focused on the early Southern Clawhammer styles\, particularly West Virginia and Round peak style Banjo. \nHis live performances will take the listener on a tour through the early styles of rural Southern Blues music and flawlessly intertwines it with his own contemporary songwriting. His songwriting stays in the tradition of complex finger style guitar arrangements and range from insightful heartfelt lyrics to hokum ragtime feeling originals.  His trademark driving finger style guitar focus on an emphasis on the complexities of the feel of the old Ragtime style piano playing. The listener will take delight in the moving and driving beat of the music. Performances also always include some searing slide guitar performed on one of his National Steel guitars. Depending on the show\, one is also likely to hear the old Appalachian style of clawhammer banjo tunes also performed on the 5 string banjo.  He has performed and shared the stage with many of the legends of this music over the years such as Brownie McGhee and Sony Terry\, Dave Van Ronk\, J. Geil’s Band\, John Mooney\, Richard Smith\, Taj Mahal\, Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks\, John Hammond\, Richard Smith and many others. He currently has released 6 CD’s under his own name and has been a guest artist on many other notable Artists records. His last two CDs were recorded at Richard Smiths studio in Nashville with some notable musicians joining in. He has been a Three time winner of the New Hampshire Guitar competition in years past\, winning a recording session at FishTracks recording Studio in Portsmouth NH\, which was used to record his 1st CD.   He more often than not performs with beautiful flattop guitars that he has designed and constructed himself. He has artist relationships with both National Resophonic guitars in San Luis Obispo and Fishman Transducers in Boston Ma. \nHe is also well known in the visual Art World for his dynamic realistic landscape paintings that hang in prestigious Corporate and Private collections around the world. He is represented by Galleries and dealers nationwide.

He himself did not come to play music\, he came as a music fan and to provide support for his songwriter cousin. His cousin\, Larry Boone\, was making his mark in country music\, as an award winning songwriter and an artist with Mercury Polygram. \nFast forward to 2007\, Ray returned to Nashville as an award winning outdoor television producer. He produced RFDTV’s “Music and Motors”\, featuring Mike Curb’s NASCAR team and young country music stars in the making. \nDuring the making of the TV show Ray was surrounded by songwriters and music makers who encouraged him to write.  As a writer he signed with BMI. When a song he penned himself\, “Totch Brown”\, about a character from the Florida Everglades was being demoed\, independent artist Rickie Lee Tanner decided to cut it on his album “This Here.”  A year later country artist\, Jake Clayton cut two of his compositions\, “Down with That” and “Old Red Barn.” These can be heard on Jake’s “By the Light of the Moon” CD. \nRay is in good company\, writing with several of Nashville’s best and brightest. Publishing companies pitch several of his songs to major artists and several of his compositions have been placed on television at PBS and The Sportsman Channel. \nPlaying songwriter rounds and developing relationships with other writers and artists is an important part of improving writing skills and melody composition. In 2018\, his EP “Native Son” was released after the song “Redland Roads” went viral on YouTube/Facebook. His song and video “Lawman” also went viral with over a million views. \nRay’s Florida roots are a mixture of Country\, Americana and a new genre\, Tropical Rock. His songs\, “Mile Zero” and “Islamorada Rendezvous” have entered the top ten on RadioA1A’s Trop 40 with several other songs from his EP rising on the charts. \nLook for his EP Native Son and Island Songs on all the streaming music sites and on YouTube Music.Check. him out at.   https://www.rayboone.com \n Bob Williams has just released his fifth studio album\, The Long Road Home. He began writing songs as soon as he learned his first three chords. Influenced by the folk-rock and country-rock of the era\, his sound was shaped by the iconic folk singers of the ’60s and the singer-songwriters of the ’70s. Over the years\, Bob’s music has naturally evolved into what’s now known as Americana—a rich blend of roots\, folk\, country\, blues\, and everything in between.\nKnown for sharing the stories behind his songs\, Bob’s writing is personal\, heartfelt\, irreverent\, funny\, and sometimes achingly sad. His performances have been described as “a mix of Neil Young and Crazy Horse with solo acoustic Bruce Springsteen.” While Bob might humbly call that a stretch\, there’s no denying the raw passion and authenticity that come through in his music. And when he performs familiar cover songs\, he makes them distinctly his own—infusing each with his unique style and emotion.\nBob also hosts a video podcast\, A Songwriter’s Journey with Bob Williams\, where he takes listeners behind the scenes of his creative process. In each episode\, he talks about the inspiration behind one of his original songs\, how it was written\, and then performs an intimate acoustic version.\nOver the course of his career\, Bob has opened for national touring artists and regularly performed with The Pearl Street Band. His songs have also been recorded and released by other performers.\nBeyond the stage\, Bob is deeply rooted in the music community. He serves as Vice President of the Americana Community Music Association Generous with his time and talent\, Bob is always eager to perform\, produce shows\, and support fellow musicians. He especially enjoys playing benefit concerts and has donated his music to countless causes over the years. All of Bob’s music is available to stream or download for free on his web site. \n Web www.reverbnation.com/bobwilliams2 \nDhruva Stephenson\,  Longtime ACMA member musicians opens the show for Brian. In her own words…”Singer-songwriter\, jammer\, traveler. Loves singing harmonies and flirting around with flute\, mandolin\, bass\, percussion\, piano and other lesser-known instruments”. She is an ACMA member from the Mid-Atlantic region. Her music reflects a variety of folksy and bluesy genres highlighted by her distinctive contralto voice. Dhruva’ has released several albums of original music \n

SUMMARY:Betty Soo in Concert! Hank Woji Opens
DESCRIPTION:Betty Soo is as Texan as they come.\nRaised outside Houston by first-generation Korean immigrant parents\, educated at UT\, she grew up listening to the Great American songbook and country radio. Older sisters led her to the world of singer/songwriters\, and nights spent at The Cactus Café and Hole In The Wall turned her on to the legacy of Texas song.\nHer 2007 solo disc\, Little Tiny Secrets\, garnered heavy regional airplay; 2009’s Heat Sin Water Sin produced by Gurf Morlix (Lucinda Williams\, Ray Wylie Hubbard)\, provided building blocks to a national (and international) audience. In 2014\, When We’re Gone\, co-produced with cellist Brian Standefer (Alejandro Escovedo\, Terry Allen) placed her firmly in the first rank of songwriters working today.\nShe’s won the requisite awards: New Folk at Kerrville\, Songwriter of the Year at Big Top Chautauqua\, The Dave Carter Songwriting Award at Sisters Folk Festival\, Mountain Stage’s New Song.\nShe’s played the festivals – multiple South by Southwests\, Kerrville\, Calgary and more. And the radio shows – E-Town\, Mountain Stage\, WoodSongs\, BBC 2 with Bob Harris.\nHer singing has been heard on Riverdale and Girl Boss\, and her songs formed the musical backbone to Christine Hoang’s 2017 play A Girl Named Sue\, singled out by Austin360.com in their review as “gorgeous\, moving ballads comment(ing) on the themes of the scenes they punctuate.”\nThe future looks auspicious for BettySoo.\nUntil the novel corona-virus shutdown\, the Nobody’s Girl project was touring nonstop\, and their intelligent lyrics and tightly-woven harmonies keep their audiences entranced. The trio recorded a full-length album featuring players such as Charlie Sexton (Bob Dylan)\, J.J. Johnson (Tedeschi Trucks)\, Glenn Fukunaga (The Chicks)\, David Grissom (Buddy Guy\, Allman Brothers\, Ringo Starr)\, and Michael Ramos (John Mellencamp\, BoDeans)\, who reprised his role as producer. She hit the road as dedicated support for songwriting heroes James McMurtry and Chris Smither. You’ll likely see her onstage singing harmonies at shows for artists such as Eliza Gilkyson\, James Hyland\, Kim Richey\, and more. Music programmers have an embarrassment of riches to choose from\, and listeners still have the opportunity to re-familiarize – or hear for the first time – the extraordinary talent that is BettySoo.\nIn the Time of COVID-19\, BettySoo cut a unique path through the broad streaming landscape — and as with everything she does\, she approached it in a way that invites authentic connection\, encourages compassion\, and merits listening. Her weekly Nobody’s Happy Hour via Zoom fostered an intimate and meaningful community and were hailed by many as one of the most creative streamed residencies anywhere.\nAwards\, music and more at:bettysoo.com\nWhat a treat to have Hank Woji opening the show. A self-described “Jersey Shore Ex-Pat turned West Texas Desert Rat\,” Hank Woji cut his musical teeth as a bassist in the vibrant Asbury Park\, NJ music scene of the 1980s & 90s. In March of 2001 Hank moved to Houston\, TX and found his new musical voice as an Americana Singer Songwriter. But destiny turned a page and it was his chance move\, in 2009\, to the far West Texas desert town of Terlingua that has most reshaped his life and his music.\nCritics have described Hank’s music as “acoustic-wielding\, sharply observed\, Americana all the way” and being “in the best tradition of the Texas troubadours like Guy Clarke\, Townes Van Zandt and Butch Hancock” and that “His troubadour style also comes very close to the style of Woody Guthrie or Pete Seeger\, or as we heard on ‘Nebraska’ from Bruce Springsteen.”\nOf his recently released 6th CD\, Tony Award winning songwriter\, Anaïs Mitchell says: “Highways\, Gamblers\, Devils and Dreams is a sprawling meditation on mythic American themes. Hank is a warm-hearted and precise troubadour of the old school.” The CD debuted in September 2023 at #5 on the Euro Americana chart and #3 on the U.S. FAI Folk Music chart\, and his recording of “Terlingua Blues” was listed on Texas Monthly’s “Going To Big Bend Ultimate Playlist” in January of that year.\nOver his 25+ year songwriter career\, Hank has performed with such notable artists as: Jonathan Byrd\, Spook Handy\, Jaimee Harris\, Joe Jenks\, Bob Livingston\, Grant Peeples\, Sarah Lee Guthrie\, David Amram\, Butch Hancock\, Jimmie Dale Gilmore\, and Pete Seeger.\nHank tours nationally\, performing regularly at festivals\, coffeehouses\, theaters\, clubs and house concerts as a solo singer songwriter\, in various duo and trio configurations\, and with his full TexAmericana Jam Band – The Hank Woji Conspiracy.\nhankwoji.com\nTickets for this show are available at the door.\nDoor Donations:$15/Members$20/General Admission\nThe doors to the ACMA listening room open at 6:30 PM and the show begins at 7:00 PM

SUMMARY:Tret Fure in Concert! Gene Martin Opens
DESCRIPTION:Tret Fure began her career at the age of 16\, singing in coffeehouses and campuses in the Midwest. At 19\, she moved to LA in hopes of obtaining a record deal. Within a year she was performing as guitarist and vocalist for Spencer Davis\, touring with him and penning the single for his album Mousetrap. She went on to record her own album Tret Fure in 1973\, on MCA/UNI Records\, with the late Lowell George of Little Feat as her producer. She recorded with and produced some of the best of women’s music including mixing the legendary Meg & Cris at Carnegie Hall (1983). She worked as a duo with Cris Williamson throughout the ’90s\, producing\, engineering and releasing three CDs together. Now after nine acoustic releases on her own label\, Tomboy girl Records\, she has re-established herself in the folk world.\nJust a couple of her career highlights:\n2023 – Tret was awarded the Phil Ochs Award in recognition of her music and her activism for social and political justice.2022 – Finalist in the USA Songwriting Competition with Tret’s new song\, “Home You Go”.\nTake a listen to some of her music:tretfure.com\nACMA Member and Singer/Songwriter\, Gene Martin opens the show. SUMMARY:Damon Fowler in Concert! JD Lashley Opens
DESCRIPTION:The ACMA is excited for Damon Fowler’s debut on our stage!\n“Fowler is as expressive a songwriter as he is a singer and instrumentalist. He’s preaching an otherworldly\, Americana-themed gospel from a six-stringed pulpit. He is a roots guitar guru.” -LIVING BLUES\nFlorida’s Gulf Coast has produced a plethora of distinctive musicians\, from the blues of Tampa Red to jazz greats Cannonball and Nat Adderley to former Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts to The Outlaws. Tampa’s Damon Fowler\, a masterful singer\, guitar player and songwriter\, has absorbed the best of and furthered the work of the region’s definitive artists. A hard driving troubadour\, his music is steeped with soul and representative of the many styles that make up the roots of American music. He gained the respect of his peers given his featured slot in Butch Truck’s Freight Train band and his side gig as guitarist in the Dickey Betts Band. Critics have compared Fowler’s guitar work to Johnny Winter and Jeff Beck\, while his slide guitar is reminiscent of the late Duane Allman. Fowler’s 2021 Landslide Records release\, Alafia Moon\, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart\, spent four months in the Top 20\, and was nominated for a BMA in the Blues/Rock category. His follow up record\, Damon Fowler & Friends\, LIve At The Palladium\, garnered strong airplay throughout the United States and Europe. The new release\, BARNYARD SMILE\, featuring 8 new original Fowler compositions plus distinctive covers of Bo Diddley and Jerry Reed tunes\, combines all of the influences that have shaped his distinctive blues career.\nOn the strength of Fowler’s hybrid of roots rock\, blues\, and sacred steel\, the Florida native started wowing audiences with his musical exploits as a teenager\, building a reputation as one of the hottest young players on the scene. Adding songwriting and vocal skills to his repertoire over the years has brought him many accolades\, with music journalists extolling his originality and maturity as well as his technical guitar expertise. Allmusic.com raved that “Fowler’s creative lap steel work is what sets him apart from the rest of the guitar heroes.”\n\n\n\nACMA member JD Lashley provides the perfect opener. If singer songwriter/ troubadour Todd Snider had dropped his kid brother on his head\, he’d have probably wound up a lot like JD Lashley. JD works hard and writes harder\, trying to pluck jokes and rhymes out of the grind. His style is heavily influenced by Americana and Roots music\, and he’s not afraid to sneak in a little Hip Hop… Something for everyone.\nTickets for this show are available at the door.\nDoor donations:$15/Members$20/General Admission\nThe doors to the ACMA listening room open at 6:30 PM and the show begins at 7:00 PM

SUMMARY:Ben Prestage in Concert! Nick and Kathy Bernardi Open
DESCRIPTION:Growing up in rural Florida near the headwaters of the Everglades in gator and panther territory helped shape Prestage’s spanish-moss-covered sound\, but he had music in his blood before birth.\nBen’s maternal great-grandmother was the leader of an all-girls band (at a time when that was unheard-of) that toured the popular vaudeville circuit and performed with one of the most famous and highest paid stars of the 1920’s- Al Jolson. Her daughter was an accomplished boogie-woogie piano player.\nOn his father’s side\, Ben’s grandfather played Blues and Country guitar in a Mississippi string band\, when he wasn’t sharecropping cotton and sweet potatoes or cutting timber.\nPrestage cut his teeth performing in Florida fish camps\, biker bars and tourist traps. After a stint as busker/street performer on historic Beale Street in Memphis\, TN Ben emerged as one of world’s top one-man-bands.\nBen’s own brand of Deep South Swamp Music has been featured at some of the world’s premier Blues\, Jazz\, Americana\, and Folk festivals. Armed with self-crafted instruments made from roasting pans\, alligator heads\, and even a closet door Prestage creates a unique sound that has earned him numerous awards and nominations. After releasing a dozen albums\, and touring across the US and more than a dozen countries\, Ben Prestage continues to create music that “soars like a swamp hawk and wallows like an old bull gator.”\nFind some tunes and more here:benprestage.com\nOpening the show will be our talented friends\, the Bernardis! The duo of Kathy and Nick Bernardi started out as a couple over 50 years ago. Many years after moving to Southwest Florida\, they got the notion to try out some open MICs\, and found out he could play\, and she could sing\, and that it was fun. And so\, the adventure began.\nFlorida offered them many other opportunities\, including the Guitar Army in Punta Gorda\, the Barberville Folk Festivals in Pierson\, and The Farm stage in Brooksville. It is here they found their music family. The Bernardis offer an eclectic blend of Americana and contemporary music. Some of them are obscure songs written by well-known artists.\nDoor Donations:Members/$15General Admission/$20\nTickets are available at the door.\nACMA Listening Room doors open at 6:30 pm and concert begins at 7:00 pm

DESCRIPTION:A.T. and Lauren Cason were born in different parts of the Carolinas and met while studying music in college in the early 2000’s—they have been singing and playing together ever since. The combination of their training and the roots of their Carolina Piedmont upbringing helped the couple naturally craft a unique and authentic American folk music sound that’s as current and innovative as it is steeped in the folk\, country\, and blues music influences of the American South.\nAfter releasing numerous singles\, an EP titled “Songs of the Folk” and their first full-length album\, “Sun-Scorched Land”\, A.T. and Lauren are set to release their second LP entitled “In the Old Kingdom”\, all of it recorded in a centuries-old converted barn in Maldon\, Essex and the first Church of England parish chapel\, St. Michael’s in Woodham Walter\, built in the 1500s.\n\nTheir musical bond is gripping and palpable and as they tell stories alongside the tunes this connection transmits to audiences\, creating a truly engaging experience. Audience members leave impressed by the songwriting and fingerstyle guitar-playing\, entranced by the refined vocal harmonies\, and enamored with the exceptional lyricism\, but most importantly\, each person leaves feeling like an old friend of the Casons and a part of the Songs of the Folk.\nRead about their passion for taking their music to those in distressed situations\,like homeless shelters\, rehab centers\, and prisons through their non-profit organization\, For the Folk www.forthefolknc.org\n\nACMA Member Dennis Michael opens the show. SUMMARY:Pierce Pettis in Concert! Pete Benson Opens
DESCRIPTION:After a lifetime of crafting finely-wrought\, heart-touching songs\, singer-songwriter Pierce Pettis feels that he’s finally found his comfort zone. “The biggest change\,” he says of this point in his career “has been getting over myself and realizing this is a job and a craft. And the purpose is not fame and fortune (whatever that is) but simply doing good work.”\nIn his own words\, “My sisters all played piano and other instruments. In school\, I met other kids who wanted to be rock stars\, just like me. From the time we were around 10 or so up through high school\, we put together various bands — all of them horrible.”\nHis “horrible” bands didn’t deter him though and even though he had a nagging feeling (“I thought I was supposed to be a doctor or something.”) he persevered\, not only playing music but writing songs in a mix of rock\, folk\, country and R&B genres that landed him an unpaid position as a staff writer for Muscle Shoals Sounds Studios. While there\, his track “Song at the End of the Movie” found its way to Joan Baez’s 1979 album Honest Lullaby. Pettis hit the road and became a member of the “Fast Folk” movement in New York in the mid-1980’s.\nAn album titled\, “Tinseltown” in 1991 produced by Mark Heard transcended the album. After Heard’s death\, to this day\, Pierce includes a song written by Heard on every album.\nPierce Pettis’ songs have been recorded by artists including Susan Ashton\, Dar Williams\, Garth Brooks and Art Garfunkel.\nVisit him and listen at:piercepettis.com\n\nPete Benson will open the show. Pete is an ACMA member as well as a singer/songwriter. Americana music and playing guitar have been his love\, muse\, and best friend since childhood.\nDoor Donations:Members/$15General Admission/$20\nTickets available at the door.\nDoors open at 6:30 pm and concert begins at 7:00 pm
