SUMMARY:Seth Walker in Concert! Dhruva' Stephenson Opens
DESCRIPTION:Country Standard Time said it best: “If you subscribe to the Big Tent theory of Americana\, then Seth Walker –with his blend of blues\, gospel\, pop\, R&B\, rock\, and a dash country—just might be your poster boy.”\nThe ACMA is excited to welcome Seth Walker to our stage!\nSeth Walker is often cited as one of the most prolific contemporary Americana artists on the scene today. He’s a multi-dimensional talent who combines a gift for melody and lyric alongside a rich\, Gospel-drenched\, Southern-inflected voice with a true blue knack for getting around on the guitar. His new studio album\, I Hope I Know\, produced by Jano Rix of The Wood Brothers\, and a string of singles\, including “We Got This\,” “Spirits Moving” and a cover of Van Morrison’s classic “Warm Love” further build upon this reputation.\n\nIn 2021\, Walker added published author to his oeuvre with his first memoir\, ‘Your Van Is On Fire.’ A riotous and charming melange of a touring musician’s life\, the book is comprised of many short essays\, poems and paintings he’d accumulated over a near 30-year career. Written during the pandemic lockdown\, Walker offers a first hand account of an artist in perpetual motion who’s dedicated his life to chasing the muse wherever it may lead.\nGrowing up on a commune in rural North Carolina\, the son of classically trained musicians\, Seth Walker played cello long before discovering the guitar in his 20s. When his introduction to the blues came via his Uncle Landon Walker\, who was both a musician and disc jockey\, his fate was forever sealed. Instantaneously\, Seth was looking to artists like T-Bone Walker\, Snooks Eaglin\, and B.B. King as a wellspring of endless inspiration. The rest is history. He’s released ten albums\, broken into the Top 20 of the Americana Radio Charts\, reached No. 2 on the Billboard Blues Album Chart and received praise from NPR\, American Songwriter\, No Depression and Relix\, among others.\nSeth Walker is currently based in Asheville\, NC after previously residing in Austin\, New Orleans and Nashville. He’s used those experiences wisely\, soaking up the sounds and absorbing the musical lineage of these varied places. With a bluesman’s respect for roots and tradition\, coupled with an appreciation for—and successful melding of—contemporary songwriting\, Seth sublimely incorporates a range of styles with warmth and grace.\nListen to some of his music at:\nsethwalker.com\nOpening the concert is Dhruva’ Stephenson. In her own words…”Singer-songwriter\, jammer\, traveler. Loves singing harmonies and flirting around with flute\, mandolin\, bass\, percussion\, piano and other lesser-known instruments”. She is an ACMA member from the Mid-Atlantic region. Her music reflects a variety of folksy and bluesy genres highlighted by her distinctive contralto voice. Dhruva’ has released several albums of original music.\nTickets for the concert are available at the door.\nDoor donations:\nMembers – $15\nGeneral Public – $20\nDoors open at 6:30 pm

JD works hard and writes harder\, trying to pluck jokes and rhymes out of the grind. His style is heavily influenced by Americana and Roots music\, and he’s not afraid to sneak in a little Hip Hop… Something for everyone.

SUMMARY:Reckless Saints W/ Susie Hulcher .... Ken Dunn Opening
DESCRIPTION:Happy 2024! The ACMA is pleased that some things don’t change. If it’s a new year for concerts then the Reckless Saints are in the house! Welcome back\, Roy and Kim.\nRead below for more details:\n\nRoy Schneider and Kim Mayfield are the core duo and songwriters of Reckless Saints. Partners in music and love since 2003\, they began recording and touring five years later. “Blue Twangled Folk ‘n’ Roll’ is the answer Roy provided to the question “What kind of music do you play?” The Fort Myers based duo decided to use his answer as the album title for their new release\, while also adopting the title of their 2018 release ‘Reckless Saints’ as their new band moniker.\n\n “Joining The Reckless Saints on stage will be Susie Hulcher. Susie has been a musician for longer than she cares to remember. She happily joins Roy and Kim for this event as bassist and vocalist to Serve The Song. www.susiehulcher.com\n\nKim & Roy met online in 2003\, when it was still awkward to admit to such in public. On their first date\, Roy had Kim playing a few chords on the mandolin and their musical collaboration began. Roy was making a living performing in local venues at the time\, but was reluctant to share his original songs as he felt no one was really listening. Kim suggested they book a summer tour\, playing any venue that would have them\, so they could focus on playing their own songs for a listening audience. Roy agreed\, and the duo spent 6 weeks on the road pulling a tiny camper. The inaugural tour gave them confidence to continue seeking a bigger listening audience and led to higher profile bookings and two European tours. The duo spent over a decade touring and recording 5 CDs of original music under their solo names before officially adopting Reckless Saints as their band name.\nOther studio guests on Reckless Saints newest album\, ‘Blue Twangled Folk ‘n’ Roll’ include the legendary Country Music Hall of Famer\, Charlie McCoy\, on harmonica\, and Aaron Neville bassist\, David C. Johnson. The album was recorded and mixed at the couple’s home studio\, ‘Shiny Gnu Records\,’ with mastering by Mark Hallman in Austin\, TX.\nTake a listen at:\nrecklesssaints.com\nOpening for Reckless Saints is ACMA member Ken Dunn. Tempered by experience and fueled by passion\, Ken Dunn’s music “sneaks into your feet\, heart\, and soul” (No Depression Magazine). Distilling disparate life experiences into a proficient set of musical skills\, his unique songs and stories take audiences on a healing journey of love and self-discovery.\nWith decades of touring and ten critically acclaimed albums to his credit\, Ken writes\, performs\, and records with the intention of promoting peace\, social\, and environmental justice. Alternatively light-hearted and pensive\, contemporary\, yet infused with tradition\, this is music focused on positive human values\, with diversity and inclusivity at its core.\nTickets for the concert are available at the door.\nDoor donations:\nMembers – $12\nGeneral Public – $18\nDoors open at 6:30 pm.

Patchouli is a folk festival headliner and Public Radio favorite with pure\, haunting lead vocals and beautiful harmonies. Their sound\, depth and virtuosity is described as “Simon and Garfunkel meets the Gipsy Kings” and “taking a yoga class in a field of running mustangs.”\nTheir soulful fusion of blazing Spanish and world guitar instrumentals\, spine tingling vocal harmonies\, and epic folk rock anthems are infused with a visible onstage chemistry. An extraordinary bond is immediately apparent as two guitars merge into one acoustic wall of sound and their innovative\, percussive flat-picking and hybrid fingerstyle techniques leave even astute listeners wondering where the drummer is.\nPatchouli & Terra Guitarra have performed over 4\,000 shows\, toured a million miles on the road supporting 20 CD releases\, won songwriting awards\, industry awards\, performed on TV\, film and are played on Radio programs around the world.\nThe duo’s instrumental guitar project Terra Guitarra – “Dragonfly” debuted at #4 on the ZMR World Music Radio Charts and was Nominated ZMR Best Instrumental Acoustic Album of the Year 2013. Their 6th instrumental album “Firelight” is nominated ZMR Best Instrumental Acoustic Album of the Year 2015 was #5 on the ZMR Charts and #1 on the OneWorldMusicRadioUK charts. The duo was honored to perform for the Awards show May 7th 2016 in New Orleans at the Joy Theatre.\nThe overwhelming demand by their fans to have a live recording of the Terra Guitarra songs lead the duo to release a 12 song recording of Terra Guitarra in concert “Live at the Big River Theatre” November 2015. In January of 2017 they released their 8th album of all instrumental music “Of Sea & Stars” fusing their Spanish guitar style groove with other world music influences and is a huge success in just it’s first couple of months available. “Of Sea & Stars”has already charted at #1 for 2 months on both One WorldMuiscRadioUK and Phase Global Radio (Austrailia) and #2 on the International ZMR new age /ambient/ world music radio charts.\nA new Patchouli album (with lyrics/vocals) is in the works and may be out by end of this year. The duo is touring hard this Spring in the USA with a couple of weeks in Europe in May. Their summer tour takes them all over the Midwestern & Eastern states for festivals\, and outdoor concerts as well as they will be debuting their new animated concert experience\, The Landscape of Guitar in several theatres.\nPatchouli & Terra Guitarra represents the very top echelon of today’s acoustic performers\, bringing the highest level of skill together with the passion\, experience and joy that are a rare combination indeed.\nhttps://www.carlenethissen.com/about\nwww.patchouli.net\nOpening for Patchouli is ACMA member Carlene Thissen!\nCarlene Thissen is an American singer-songwriter\, and author\, born on June 28\, 1950\, in Andover \, northwest New Jersey. Carlene Thissen is now in Naples\, Florida\, where she dedicates herself to performing\, speaking and songwriting\, singing and playing piano and guitar at house concerts\, clubs\, restaurants\, festivals and charity events. She also serves the community as part-time Instructor and content developer for a Farm Labor Supervisor Training program at the University of Florida’s Research & Education Center in Immokalee.\nCarlene Thissen performed in the 1960s and 70s as a young guitar-playing folk singer in northwest New Jersey\, doing songs by Bob Dylan\, Joan Baez\, Judy Collins\, Joni Mitchell and Melanie. She says the best three days of her life were spent at the Woodstock Music & Art Fair in 1969 and she presents a multi-media program today about that experience.\nAs she explains in her autobiographical song\, Back There Again\, this Woodstock hippie girl\, “…cut her hair and got a career\, and lost herself for 30 odd years.” Forgetting her dreams of being a doctor working in ghettos\, she became a successful business woman\, well known for speeches\, articles and books about marketing technology. She ended her corporate career as Vice President for a large market research company in Chicago\, started her own independent international consulting company and then moved to Naples\, Florida.\nCarlene Thissen says a series of God-driven events led her back to her true self through the agricultural community of Immokalee\, Florida\, where she volunteered as a music teacher for pre-school children and sang in the choir at Our Lady of Guadalupe church. Her love of the farm workers inspired two books: Immokalee’s Fields of Hope and Called From Silence: The Father Sanders Novel.\nShe also has written several songs that were inspired by her work and friendships there (see MUSIC on this website and listen to “Take These Hands\,” “Mama in Your Heart\,” “When Papa Goes North\,” “Our Lady of Guadalupe\,” and “On the Road Home.”).\nCarlene still works part-time at the University of Florida in Immokalee\, teaching and developing courses to educate the supervisors of farm workers on the laws that keep farm workers safe and in a fair work environment.\nShe has three more books in progress about Immokalee and music that will no doubt accompany them. The one that is closest to publication will be called Harvest of Dreams\, stories of the children of the farm workers who have gotten educations and advanced degrees so they no longer have to work in the fields. The other two are Black Immokalee\, the stories of American Black people who lived on the south side on segregated Immokalee; and The Haitian Kids\, about 10 young people she has loved and mentored for 21 years.\nShe graduated with a B.A. in Business Administration from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul\, Minnesota in 1982\, and an M.A. in Latin American History from Florida International University in Miami in 2005.\nCarlene Thissen lives in Naples\, Florida.\nShe is a member of Nashville’s Global Songwriter’s Connection\, Women of Substance’ Female Musician Academy\, and the Americana Community Member Association.

SUMMARY:Rupert Wates in Concert! Gareth Rockliffe Opens
DESCRIPTION:“This is one gifted s.o.b. If you are not hip to this guy you are missing a lot”. – Mark S. Tucker\, FAME\nWe\, at the ACMA\, agree and are excited to have Rupert Wates back on our stage.\nRead more:\nRupert Wates was born in London and studied at Oxford University. He has been a full time songwriter since the late 1990s\, when he signed a publishing contract with Eaton Music Limited. In London he worked with some of the best performers in the city. Moving in 2001 to Paris\, Wates formed his own quartet and began playing live regularly. In fall 2006 he came to the US. He is now based in New York City and Colorado. Since coming to the US\, he has won more than 50 songwriting and performing awards (www.rupertwatesmusic.com/awards).\nHis music is an eclectic mix of acoustic\, melodic art/folk\, with flavors of jazz\, vaudeville and cabaret. He has released twelve solo CDs. They have received outstanding reviews in the international online press and tracks from them have been played on radio all over the world. In addition\, Wates’ songs have been covered by other artists in the UK\, Canada and the US.\n\nRupert Wates averages 120 live shows every year\, in front of audiences totaling more than 3\,500\, in acoustic venues in every state in America\, in Canada and in Europe. He performs sometimes alone\, sometimes with his trio or his quartet. He prefers smaller listening rooms where the audience is up close and the emphasis is on the music. Audiences everywhere respond to Wates’ brand of melodic art/folk—haunting songs that ring true.\nrupertwatesmusic.com\n\nThe opener for Rupert Wates is ACMA member and singer/songwriter\, Gareth Rockliffe. Gareth Rockliffe\, a native of the UK\, is a professional photographer who has enjoyed writing songs for the past thirty years. His songs are often deeply personal\, but with a universal heartfelt appeal. Gareth’s songs have in the past only been shared with small groups of friends or fellow songwriters…that’s about to change.\nTickets available at the door!\nDoor donations:\n$12 – Members\n$18 – General Public\nDoors open at 6:30 PM. SUMMARY:Ellis Paul 30th Year Anniversary Tour! Featuring\, Darryl Purpose\, Gene Martin opens
DESCRIPTION:There is a story behind every musician that graces our stage at the ACMA. For the ACMA to be a part of this artist’s 30th Year Anniversary Tour is top shelf! You are going to like this….\nOn our stage\, Ellis Paul\n\n“Ellis Paul is one of the best singer/songwriters of his generation. And for many of us he is the face of contemporary folk music. Few are as smart\, as literate\, as poetic as Paul. I cannot think of another artist on the acoustic music scene is better loved by fans\, or more respected by his contemporaries.” Lee Zimmerman – (writer/reviewer for American Songwriter)\nRead on:\nEllis Paul is one of those gifted singer/songwriters. Though some may refer to him as a folk singer\, he is more\, for lack of a better word\, a singular storyteller\, a musician whose words reach out from inside and yet also express the feelings\, thoughts and sensibilities that most people can relate to in one way or another\, regardless of age or upbringing. The exhilaration of the open road. A celebration of heroes. The hope for redemption. Descriptions of those things that are both near and dear. The sharing of love\, intimate\,passionate and enduring.\nSome artists document their lives through their music. Others chronicle their times. It’s a rare artist who can do both\, telling their own story through songs that also encapsulate the essence of people and places who have helped define their era overall. Woody Guthrie comes to mind\, and so does Bob Dylan. Bruce Springsteen certainly as well. Yet few others\, for whatever genius they may possess\, can relate their own history to the history experienced by those who find that common bond\, be it in a coming of age\, living through the same realities or sharing similar experiences.\n\nThere’s likely no greater evidence of how Woody Guthrie’s insights and humanity have rubbed off on Paul than in this particularly telling tribute from Nora Guthrie. “A singer-songwriter is only as good as the times he reflects\, ”she said in praising Paul. “In times like these\, when so many nuts are running the show\, it’s comforting to know that Ellis Paul is actually holding our sanity on his own stage! Wise\, tender\, brilliant and biting\, Ellis is one of our best human compasses\, marking in melodies and poems where we’ve been and where we might go if we so choose to. Personally\, Ellis\, I’m goin’ where you’re goin’! ”   we are hoping to put together a member only workshop with Ellis.\nellispaul.com\n\nDarryl Purpose as a special guest of Ellis Paul. Darryl is a tremendous songwriter with a long history of shows across the US. \nDarryl Purpose. Website https://darrylpurpose.com/home \nOpening our show is ACMA treasure\, member and singer/songwriter Gene Martin!Gene is a radiologist who has been singing in church choirs\, glee clubs\, and choruses since childhood. He started playing the ukulele\, and four string banjo as a teenager\, then the guitar which was his constant companion through college\, medical school\, and during his tour as a battalion surgeon in Vietnam. He formed a quartet with fellow students in college where they entertained at many functions and parties. After retiring he joined the ACMA\, and began writing songs. His first real attempt was the song\, I Can’t Live Forever\, But It’s On My Bucket List. He then formed a band called The Floridians with Mary Dahl\, Al Candelaria\, and Chuck Dettmann. They entertain in the atrium at Health Park\, and at least twice a month at Loving Hearts\, an adult day care center\, leading many songs the clients sing with them\, and they have done several shows sponsored by the ACMA. Gene also cohosts the ACMA Songwriters Circle with Bruce Cese Gallant.  \n\nConcert Tickets are available at the door\nDonations:\nMembers – $15\nGeneral Public – $20\nDoors open at 6:30 pm

SUMMARY:Rod MacDonald @ ACMA @ ShellPoint Tribby Theater
DESCRIPTION:The ACMA is thrilled to be continuing our Americana Acoustic Series in collaboration with The Tribby Arts Center at Shellpoint Village.\nRod MacDonald will step on the stage on August 24th!\nA veteran of the Greenwich Village folk scene\, Rod MacDonald’s happily ensconced in Delray and still manages to eke out a pretty good living with frequent touring and an ongoing series of master classes at FAU where he lectures on popular music.\nPrior to relocating to these realms in 1995\, MacDonald was a constant presence at many of New York’s most prestigious folk clubs\, including Gerdes Folk City and the Bottom Line\, and his level activity both here and abroad hasn’t faltered since.\nDespite frequent overseas tours\, he manages to make regular Florida appearances\, not only under his own auspices\, but also as part of his Dylan tribute band Big Brass Bed and in a traditional group setting with singer Tracy Sands. Their songs are devoted to social and political commentary; his “American Jerusalem” was hailed for its commentary about the contrast between the rich and the poor. It’s little wonder his material has been covered by the likes of Dave Van Ronk\, Shawn Colvin\, and Jonathan Edwards.\nHe can also claim ten solo albums and shared stages with Emmylou Harris\, Pete Seeger\, Peter Yarrow\, Richie Havens\, Ani DiFranco\, Odetta\, Suzanne Vega\, and the Violent Femmes. Whew!\nTickets    $25.00.   https://www.tribbyartscenter.com\n\nThe Tribby Arts Center is a multimillion $$ performing arts center with a state of the arts sound system. SUMMARY:Deidre McCalla in Concert! Robert Bidney opens
DESCRIPTION:Deidre McCalla is not afraid of the heat. Her upcoming tour is coming through Florida in August! The ACMA is lucky to have this powerhouse talent make her first-time appearance on our ACMA stage!\nWhat some are saying about Deidre McCalla:\n“…alluring contemporary folk that is both inspired and inspiring…”\n–Roots Music Report\n“…a highly distinctive voice in a crowded field of contemporary folk music.”\n–Austin American Statesman\nDeidre McCalla doesn’t merely take the stage – she owns it. Her songs embody hope and celebration\, struggle\, loss\, and longing – sometimes all in one song!\nA dreadlocked singer-songwriter-guitarist for close to five decades Deidre McCalla\, Black woman\, mother\, lesbian\, feminist\, has long been in the forefront of the growing number of Black musicians reconfiguring perceptions of how Black folk do folk.\nWith five independent albums to to her credit\, including her most recent release Endless Grace\, Deidre McCalla has touched audiences from Maui to Maine\, church basements and college coffeehouses to Carnegie Hall. In 2021 Deidre received a SERFA Award from the Southeast Regional Folk Alliance for distinguished service and exceptional contributions to folk music in the Southeast region of Folk Alliance International.\nHer powerful songwriting exhibits an unyieldingly honest perspective grounded in her life and expressed with a lyric touch that is simple and direct and fearlessly celebrates the power and diversity of the human spirit.\ndeidremccalla.com\nOur own ACMA member and singer/songwriter\, Robert Bidney will be the perfect opener for this show! His message is as strong as his melodies. His music is relatable. A seasoned performer\, Bidney connects with his audiences through his infectious energy and emotional performances. SUMMARY:Abby Posner in Concert! Fred Ball opens
DESCRIPTION:April showers bring May flowers AND Abby Posner to our ACMA stage for a night of great music!\nAbby Posner has been a working musician in Los Angeles for the past 18 years. She is best known for her ability to play nearly any instrument that she can get her hands on\, twisting genres\, and pushing the boundaries of folk\, roots\, electronic\, and pop music making her “Genre Fluid.” If you have seen Abby perform live\, you know she can play a mean lead-blues guitar solo\, or throw down a complex Earl Scruggs banjo riff. You also may have spotted her playing drums\, mandolin\, or bass while using her looping pedal. In addition to her versatility\, she puts passion and soul into everything she does.\nPosner has also scored the music for multiple films (Across Land Across Sea\, Through Their Eyes\, award winning short animation Elizabeth Sees\, and recently scored the Award-winning Documentary Lady Buds) while playing and touring all over the US. In 2019 Posner played banjo and sang Wagon Wheel as a featured principal role in Bank Of America’s ad campaign for the Ken Burn’s PBS Country Music Documentary.\nIn 2020 Abby Posner won the Carl Gage “Give me Shelter in Place” Songwriting Award through the Topanga Folk Festival for her original song Blind Spots\, and she received the runner up for her song Emergency Use Only for the 18th Annual International Acoustic Music Awards. She was honored to land an Official Showcase at Folk Alliance International in 2022 and will be releasing 2 new records in 2023.\nhttps://www.abbyposner.com\nOpening the show is ACMA member and singer songwriter Fred Ball. Fred told us\, I got my musical start in Greenwich Village in the early 60s during “The Great Folk Scare”. Played primarily folk music until the late 60s when I started playing in a wedding band (if I ever have to play “The Shadow of Your Smile” again I might throw up). In 2005 Fred recommited himself to his music and said this..We moved to Florida in 2018 and I started out running the open mic at George andT Wendy’s Sanibel Seafood Grill until COVID shut it down. I have played local gigs at Woody’s\, Hooked\, The Perch at The Wyvern in Punta Gorda\, and The Paradise Deli. I happily found the ACMA three years ago.\nSongwriting has become my passion and I spend time each day in pursuit of that! As a resident “old guy” my hands are now showing the ravages of age but will play until I cannot! You have to love what you do……..and I do!\nTickets are available at the door. SUMMARY:Mean Mary in Concert! JD Lashley open
DESCRIPTION:Welcome back to our ACMA stage…Mean Mary! Come meet and hear one of the most talented and engaging performers you will ever hear.\nMary James\, the youngest of 6 children\, learned to read music before she could read words and was an official singer/songwriter before she’d started her first day of kindergarten. With the help of her mom\, she wrote her theme song “Mean Mary from Alabam’.” The press immediately baptized her with this handle\, and she’s been Mean Mary ever since. It was clear that Mary had the appetite and talent for music and writing.\nMary was now playing guitar\, banjo and fiddle. She recorded her first album at age six\, and spent five hours a day on instrumental and vocal practice along with her live performances. At the end of the second grade\, she went into home study and also started appearing daily on the Country Boy Eddie Show\, a regional TV program out of Birmingham\, Alabama. During this time\, she also appeared regularly in Nashville\, Tennessee at the Nashville Palace\, on the Nashville Network\, the Elvis Presley Museum\, and on Printer’s Alley.\nA horrendous car accident almost ended Mary’s singing career..her right vocal cord was paralyzed. Music was her life. She was not and did not give up! The hard road to recovery began.\nToday she produces music\, produces videos (her YouTube videos have received over 15 million visits)\, tours extensively across the US and overseas\, is co-writing a novel trilogy about the music world\, and is an endorsing artist for Deering Banjos. The Deerings have named her their Goodtime Ambassador. Mary plays 11 instruments and has recorded 16 albums\, her newest being Cold. There is not room here to tell the whole life story of Mean Mary\, but if you would like to hear more of it\, come listen as she once again brings her talent to our ACMA stage!!\nmeanmary.com\nOpening the show is ACMA member\, JD Lashley\, If singer songwriter/ troubadour Todd Snider had dropped his kid brother on his head\, he’d have probably wound up a lot like JD Lashley. JD works hard and writes harder\, trying to pluck jokes and rhymes out of the grind. His style is heavily influenced by Americana and Roots music\, and he’s not afraid to sneak in a little Hip Hop… Something for everyone.\nDoor donations:\nMembers – $12\nGeneral Public – $18\nTickets are available at the door.

SUMMARY:ACMA Songwriters at the Plaza\, Karen Cohen \, Dan Philgreen\, Bruce Gallant
DESCRIPTION:Karen Cohen \, Dan Philgreen\, Bruce Gallant\nThe Lee County Library has joined with The ACMA (Americana Community Music Association)\, to offer FREE concerts of all original music by local Artists. Concerts will take place in the Amphitheater\, which is located on South Cornog Plaza. Bring a chair or a blanket\, shows will be moved to the meeting rooms located next to the amphitheater if needed depending on weather.\nThe ACMA is a Fort Myers based not for profit promoting local artists who perform original songs. What to expect\, you will hear singer-songwriters sharing a lifetime of experiences in song and the inspiration behind the songs. Be prepared to enjoy an evening of professional quality acoustic Americana music. Americana music is a coming together of blues\, roots\, folk \, bluegrass\, and country. Lots of room to spread out so bring a friend.\n\nKaren Cohen\,\nA lifelong guitar player and visual artist\, Karen is used to focusing on creative pursuits. Whatever form her creative “Flow-du-Jour” takes\, she generally excels. Whether it is singing and picking songs from the 60’s folk revival\, Jumping on a Memphis Minnie guitar lick\, or Sliding on some Old Delta Blues\, she has fans at guitar circles\, open mics and at a few from the ACMA. Over the past few years Karen has been writing her own songs. A new form of creating for her\, but as she put’s it; “It all comes from the same Source… I love get to the essence of Emotion. Whether Carved from the trunk of a Black Walnut tree\, Burned with acid into a printmaker’s plate\, or coming up with a new melody to illuminate a lyric\, emotion is the ceaseless source of my expression.”\n\nDan Philgreen\,\nAfter failed attempts at violin and piano\, Dan Philgreen picked up the guitar in the 7th grade. Like many of his age he was very influenced by the many singer-songwriters that were at the height of their popularity during the 70’s when he was in high school\, as well as the folk-rock bands of that era\, such as Crosby\, Stills\, and Nash. He has played in church for much of his life but has also always had a love for folk music which never had much of an outlet before his moving to Fort Myers. The founding of the Americana Community Music Association opened a door of opportunity to develop and share his music in a community of folks who are also passionate about this genre. Though he dabbled in song-writing earlier in his life and had a few songs to his credit\, the inspiration of the ACMA’s songwriter’s circle spurred him to write many more songs over the past few years. His playing has also developed to a higher point in the last decade and he says that\, with age\, his voice is finally starting to cooperate as well. Dan’s songs are based on his observations of life and the beauty he sees in the world. They deal with the challenges of life honestly\, but always attempt to leave the listener with hope.\n\nBruce Gallant “Music was always a part of my life.Family jamborees were a constant part of my family life. My Mom\, uncles and numerous relatives and friends\, all sang and played music .It was just part of life for me.\nI started writing songs in my late 20’s and have never stopped.Anything of importance in my life is in one of my songs. It is not a choice for me to write anymore than breathing is. I need to write to survive”.

SUMMARY:Ordinary Elephant in Concert! Barbara Chamberlain Opens
DESCRIPTION:Anything BUT ordinary\, the ACMA is excited to have the Ordinary Elephant\, Pete and Crystal Damore\, on our stage for the first time!\nInternational Folk Music Awards 2017 Artist of the Year Ordinary Elephant captivates audiences with their emotionally powerful and vulnerable songs\, letting the listener know that they are not alone in this world.\nInterestingly\, if not ironically\, in order to accomplish this new work\, Crystal and Pete had to set aside the work they’d done previously\, as a veterinary cardiologist and a computer programmer\, respectively. The two met at an open mic in College Station\, Texas\, in 2009 and soon moved to Houston together. With her on acoustic guitar/lead vocals and him on clawhammer banjo/harmony vocals\, the work of music continued on the side as both had full-time jobs\, until they threw all caution to the wind and hit the road in an RV.\nAs Crystal notes\, “The choices we make are not easy or safe but they are important. Indeed\, every of us has a heritage\, a legacy\, a story\, of which we are part\, for better and for worse. Each moment and memory a lesson leading us to who we will be.”\nOrdinary Elephant makes every word count as it rises from their chests to their tongues.\nhttps://www.ordinaryelephant.net/\nOpening the show isBarbara Chamberlain \nHer passion for playing the guitar and singing harmony at every chance she gets led her to becoming one of the founding board members of the ACMA.\nNow that she is back to her beloved Southwest Florida\, after some time in Michigan\, you might find her performing several decades of multi genre music alone or with friends\, while she works towards producing a CD. When not making music with her friends from Naples to Pine Island\, she will be saving the bees\, kayaking or fishing. \nTickets are available at the door.\nDoor donations:\nMembers – $12\nGeneral Public – $18
