SUMMARY:Ellis Paul 30th Year Anniversary Tour! Featuring\, Darryl Purpose\, Gene Martin opens
DESCRIPTION:There is a story behind every musician that graces our stage at the ACMA. For the ACMA to be a part of this artist’s 30th Year Anniversary Tour is top shelf! You are going to like this….\nOn our stage\, Ellis Paul\n\n“Ellis Paul is one of the best singer/songwriters of his generation. And for many of us he is the face of contemporary folk music. Few are as smart\, as literate\, as poetic as Paul. I cannot think of another artist on the acoustic music scene is better loved by fans\, or more respected by his contemporaries.” Lee Zimmerman – (writer/reviewer for American Songwriter)\nRead on:\nEllis Paul is one of those gifted singer/songwriters. Though some may refer to him as a folk singer\, he is more\, for lack of a better word\, a singular storyteller\, a musician whose words reach out from inside and yet also express the feelings\, thoughts and sensibilities that most people can relate to in one way or another\, regardless of age or upbringing. The exhilaration of the open road. A celebration of heroes. The hope for redemption. Descriptions of those things that are both near and dear. The sharing of love\, intimate\,passionate and enduring.\nSome artists document their lives through their music. Others chronicle their times. It’s a rare artist who can do both\, telling their own story through songs that also encapsulate the essence of people and places who have helped define their era overall. Woody Guthrie comes to mind\, and so does Bob Dylan. Bruce Springsteen certainly as well. Yet few others\, for whatever genius they may possess\, can relate their own history to the history experienced by those who find that common bond\, be it in a coming of age\, living through the same realities or sharing similar experiences.\n\nThere’s likely no greater evidence of how Woody Guthrie’s insights and humanity have rubbed off on Paul than in this particularly telling tribute from Nora Guthrie. “A singer-songwriter is only as good as the times he reflects\, ”she said in praising Paul. “In times like these\, when so many nuts are running the show\, it’s comforting to know that Ellis Paul is actually holding our sanity on his own stage! Wise\, tender\, brilliant and biting\, Ellis is one of our best human compasses\, marking in melodies and poems where we’ve been and where we might go if we so choose to. Personally\, Ellis\, I’m goin’ where you’re goin’! ”   we are hoping to put together a member only workshop with Ellis.\nellispaul.com\n\nDarryl Purpose as a special guest of Ellis Paul. Darryl is a tremendous songwriter with a long history of shows across the US. \nDarryl Purpose. Website https://darrylpurpose.com/home \nOpening our show is ACMA treasure\, member and singer/songwriter Gene Martin!Gene is a radiologist who has been singing in church choirs\, glee clubs\, and choruses since childhood. He started playing the ukulele\, and four string banjo as a teenager\, then the guitar which was his constant companion through college\, medical school\, and during his tour as a battalion surgeon in Vietnam. He formed a quartet with fellow students in college where they entertained at many functions and parties. After retiring he joined the ACMA\, and began writing songs. His first real attempt was the song\, I Can’t Live Forever\, But It’s On My Bucket List. He then formed a band called The Floridians with Mary Dahl\, Al Candelaria\, and Chuck Dettmann. They entertain in the atrium at Health Park\, and at least twice a month at Loving Hearts\, an adult day care center\, leading many songs the clients sing with them\, and they have done several shows sponsored by the ACMA. Gene also cohosts the ACMA Songwriters Circle with Bruce Cese Gallant.  \n\nConcert Tickets are available at the door\nDonations:\nMembers – $15\nGeneral Public – $20\nDoors open at 6:30 pm

DESCRIPTION:The ACMA is thrilled to be continuing our Americana Acoustic Series in collaboration with The Tribby Arts Center at Shellpoint Village.\nRod MacDonald will step on the stage on August 24th!\nA veteran of the Greenwich Village folk scene\, Rod MacDonald’s happily ensconced in Delray and still manages to eke out a pretty good living with frequent touring and an ongoing series of master classes at FAU where he lectures on popular music.\nPrior to relocating to these realms in 1995\, MacDonald was a constant presence at many of New York’s most prestigious folk clubs\, including Gerdes Folk City and the Bottom Line\, and his level activity both here and abroad hasn’t faltered since.\nDespite frequent overseas tours\, he manages to make regular Florida appearances\, not only under his own auspices\, but also as part of his Dylan tribute band Big Brass Bed and in a traditional group setting with singer Tracy Sands. Their songs are devoted to social and political commentary; his “American Jerusalem” was hailed for its commentary about the contrast between the rich and the poor. It’s little wonder his material has been covered by the likes of Dave Van Ronk\, Shawn Colvin\, and Jonathan Edwards.\nHe can also claim ten solo albums and shared stages with Emmylou Harris\, Pete Seeger\, Peter Yarrow\, Richie Havens\, Ani DiFranco\, Odetta\, Suzanne Vega\, and the Violent Femmes. SUMMARY:Abby Posner in Concert! Fred Ball opens
DESCRIPTION:April showers bring May flowers AND Abby Posner to our ACMA stage for a night of great music!\nAbby Posner has been a working musician in Los Angeles for the past 18 years. She is best known for her ability to play nearly any instrument that she can get her hands on\, twisting genres\, and pushing the boundaries of folk\, roots\, electronic\, and pop music making her “Genre Fluid.” If you have seen Abby perform live\, you know she can play a mean lead-blues guitar solo\, or throw down a complex Earl Scruggs banjo riff. You also may have spotted her playing drums\, mandolin\, or bass while using her looping pedal. In addition to her versatility\, she puts passion and soul into everything she does.\nPosner has also scored the music for multiple films (Across Land Across Sea\, Through Their Eyes\, award winning short animation Elizabeth Sees\, and recently scored the Award-winning Documentary Lady Buds) while playing and touring all over the US. In 2019 Posner played banjo and sang Wagon Wheel as a featured principal role in Bank Of America’s ad campaign for the Ken Burn’s PBS Country Music Documentary.\nIn 2020 Abby Posner won the Carl Gage “Give me Shelter in Place” Songwriting Award through the Topanga Folk Festival for her original song Blind Spots\, and she received the runner up for her song Emergency Use Only for the 18th Annual International Acoustic Music Awards. She was honored to land an Official Showcase at Folk Alliance International in 2022 and will be releasing 2 new records in 2023.\nhttps://www.abbyposner.com\nOpening the show is ACMA member and singer songwriter Fred Ball. Fred told us\, I got my musical start in Greenwich Village in the early 60s during “The Great Folk Scare”. Played primarily folk music until the late 60s when I started playing in a wedding band (if I ever have to play “The Shadow of Your Smile” again I might throw up). In 2005 Fred recommited himself to his music and said this..We moved to Florida in 2018 and I started out running the open mic at George andT Wendy’s Sanibel Seafood Grill until COVID shut it down. I have played local gigs at Woody’s\, Hooked\, The Perch at The Wyvern in Punta Gorda\, and The Paradise Deli. I happily found the ACMA three years ago.\nSongwriting has become my passion and I spend time each day in pursuit of that! As a resident “old guy” my hands are now showing the ravages of age but will play until I cannot! You have to love what you do……..and I do!\nTickets are available at the door. Door donations are:\n$12 for Members\n$18 for General Public

SUMMARY:Mean Mary in Concert! JD Lashley open
DESCRIPTION:Welcome back to our ACMA stage…Mean Mary! Come meet and hear one of the most talented and engaging performers you will ever hear.\nMary James\, the youngest of 6 children\, learned to read music before she could read words and was an official singer/songwriter before she’d started her first day of kindergarten. With the help of her mom\, she wrote her theme song “Mean Mary from Alabam’.” The press immediately baptized her with this handle\, and she’s been Mean Mary ever since. It was clear that Mary had the appetite and talent for music and writing.\nMary was now playing guitar\, banjo and fiddle. She recorded her first album at age six\, and spent five hours a day on instrumental and vocal practice along with her live performances. At the end of the second grade\, she went into home study and also started appearing daily on the Country Boy Eddie Show\, a regional TV program out of Birmingham\, Alabama. During this time\, she also appeared regularly in Nashville\, Tennessee at the Nashville Palace\, on the Nashville Network\, the Elvis Presley Museum\, and on Printer’s Alley.\nA horrendous car accident almost ended Mary’s singing career..her right vocal cord was paralyzed. Music was her life. She was not and did not give up! The hard road to recovery began.\nToday she produces music\, produces videos (her YouTube videos have received over 15 million visits)\, tours extensively across the US and overseas\, is co-writing a novel trilogy about the music world\, and is an endorsing artist for Deering Banjos. The Deerings have named her their Goodtime Ambassador. Mary plays 11 instruments and has recorded 16 albums\, her newest being Cold. There is not room here to tell the whole life story of Mean Mary\, but if you would like to hear more of it\, come listen as she once again brings her talent to our ACMA stage!!\nmeanmary.com\nOpening the show is ACMA member\, JD Lashley\, If singer songwriter/ troubadour Todd Snider had dropped his kid brother on his head\, he’d have probably wound up a lot like JD Lashley. JD works hard and writes harder\, trying to pluck jokes and rhymes out of the grind. His style is heavily influenced by Americana and Roots music\, and he’s not afraid to sneak in a little Hip Hop… Something for everyone.\nDoor donations:\nMembers – $12\nGeneral Public – $18\nTickets are available at the door.

SUMMARY:ACMA Songwriters at the Plaza\, Karen Cohen \, Dan Philgreen\, Bruce Gallant
DESCRIPTION:Karen Cohen \, Dan Philgreen\, Bruce Gallant\nThe Lee County Library has joined with The ACMA (Americana Community Music Association)\, to offer FREE concerts of all original music by local Artists. Concerts will take place in the Amphitheater\, which is located on South Cornog Plaza. Bring a chair or a blanket\, shows will be moved to the meeting rooms located next to the amphitheater if needed depending on weather.\nThe ACMA is a Fort Myers based not for profit promoting local artists who perform original songs. What to expect\, you will hear singer-songwriters sharing a lifetime of experiences in song and the inspiration behind the songs. Be prepared to enjoy an evening of professional quality acoustic Americana music. Americana music is a coming together of blues\, roots\, folk \, bluegrass\, and country. Lots of room to spread out so bring a friend.\n\nKaren Cohen\,\nA lifelong guitar player and visual artist\, Karen is used to focusing on creative pursuits. Whatever form her creative “Flow-du-Jour” takes\, she generally excels. Whether it is singing and picking songs from the 60’s folk revival\, Jumping on a Memphis Minnie guitar lick\, or Sliding on some Old Delta Blues\, she has fans at guitar circles\, open mics and at a few from the ACMA. Over the past few years Karen has been writing her own songs. A new form of creating for her\, but as she put’s it; “It all comes from the same Source… I love get to the essence of Emotion. Whether Carved from the trunk of a Black Walnut tree\, Burned with acid into a printmaker’s plate\, or coming up with a new melody to illuminate a lyric\, emotion is the ceaseless source of my expression.”\n\nDan Philgreen\,\nAfter failed attempts at violin and piano\, Dan Philgreen picked up the guitar in the 7th grade. Like many of his age he was very influenced by the many singer-songwriters that were at the height of their popularity during the 70’s when he was in high school\, as well as the folk-rock bands of that era\, such as Crosby\, Stills\, and Nash. He has played in church for much of his life but has also always had a love for folk music which never had much of an outlet before his moving to Fort Myers. The founding of the Americana Community Music Association opened a door of opportunity to develop and share his music in a community of folks who are also passionate about this genre. Though he dabbled in song-writing earlier in his life and had a few songs to his credit\, the inspiration of the ACMA’s songwriter’s circle spurred him to write many more songs over the past few years. His playing has also developed to a higher point in the last decade and he says that\, with age\, his voice is finally starting to cooperate as well. Dan’s songs are based on his observations of life and the beauty he sees in the world. They deal with the challenges of life honestly\, but always attempt to leave the listener with hope.\n\nBruce Gallant “Music was always a part of my life.Family jamborees were a constant part of my family life. My Mom\, uncles and numerous relatives and friends\, all sang and played music .It was just part of life for me.\nI started writing songs in my late 20’s and have never stopped.Anything of importance in my life is in one of my songs. It is not a choice for me to write anymore than breathing is. I need to write to survive”.

SUMMARY:Ordinary Elephant in Concert! Barbara Chamberlain Opens
DESCRIPTION:Anything BUT ordinary\, the ACMA is excited to have the Ordinary Elephant\, Pete and Crystal Damore\, on our stage for the first time!\nInternational Folk Music Awards 2017 Artist of the Year Ordinary Elephant captivates audiences with their emotionally powerful and vulnerable songs\, letting the listener know that they are not alone in this world.\nInterestingly\, if not ironically\, in order to accomplish this new work\, Crystal and Pete had to set aside the work they’d done previously\, as a veterinary cardiologist and a computer programmer\, respectively. The two met at an open mic in College Station\, Texas\, in 2009 and soon moved to Houston together. With her on acoustic guitar/lead vocals and him on clawhammer banjo/harmony vocals\, the work of music continued on the side as both had full-time jobs\, until they threw all caution to the wind and hit the road in an RV.\nAs Crystal notes\, “The choices we make are not easy or safe but they are important. Indeed\, every of us has a heritage\, a legacy\, a story\, of which we are part\, for better and for worse. Each moment and memory a lesson leading us to who we will be.”\nOrdinary Elephant makes every word count as it rises from their chests to their tongues.\nhttps://www.ordinaryelephant.net/\nOpening the show isBarbara Chamberlain \nHer passion for playing the guitar and singing harmony at every chance she gets led her to becoming one of the founding board members of the ACMA.\nNow that she is back to her beloved Southwest Florida\, after some time in Michigan\, you might find her performing several decades of multi genre music alone or with friends\, while she works towards producing a CD. When not making music with her friends from Naples to Pine Island\, she will be saving the bees\, kayaking or fishing. \nTickets are available at the door.\nDoor donations:\nMembers – $12\nGeneral Public – $18

SUMMARY:Charlie McCoy/Reckless Saints in Concert
DESCRIPTION:This is an outdoor show that will be moved inside if necessary\n\nOur final ACMA Alliance show of the season will feature Charlie McCoy sharing the stage in the Round with The Reckless Saints. Any musician in Nashville has heard of Charlie McCoy. A mainstay in Music City since the ’60s\, Charlie has played on dozens of hit records\, including work with such legends as Elvis Presley\, Johnny Cash\, Dolly Parton\, Simon and Garfunkel\, George Jones\, Bob Dylan\, Roy Orbison and many more. The solo work of this Country Music Hall Of Fame member is contained on more than three dozen albums that Charlie has released over the past four decades.\nHow reservations work for outdoor concerts: We will be accepting the first 132 people for concert reservations. IF weather threatens the outdoor concert it will be moved to our indoor theatre for general admission seats. If there is no weather threat we will sell additional tickets at the door the day of the concert.\n\n  Public  Tickets.  $16.00.  \n\nAdvance Tickets.         www.artsinlee.org\n\n\nCharlie has performed all over America\, Japan twenty times and in over two hundred cities and towns in Europe.\nA member of the Country Music Hall Of Fame\nThere are numerous super-session musicians in Nashville\, but very few with the longevity of Charlie McCoy. In addition to being a fixture in Nashville studios for 48 years\, he also has his own recording career going full tilt. (He has recorded 35 solo albums.) He served as the music director for eightteen years for the syndicated television series\, “Hee Haw”.\n\nCharlie McCoy began working sessions in the early 60s\, one of the first being “Candy Man” by Roy Orbison. “Forty nine dollars”\, says Charlie. That’s how much I was paid for that session back in 1961. “It got Roy another hit and me a career. For a twenty year old to make $49 for three hours work back then\, it was a dream.\nShortly after the release of “Candy Man”\, Charlie became one of the in-demand session players in Nashville. His session credits are literally a who’s who of country music. For a fifteen year stretch\, he did more than 400 sessions a year. A grand total would number more than 12\,000. (and he’s still going) In the last twenty years\, he has been touring more with many appearances in Europe and Japan.\nIn addition to country sessions\, Charlie was a mainstay on Elvis Presley recordings both in Nashville and Los Angeles. When Bob Dylan recorded “Highway 61”\, “Blond On Blond”\, “John Wesley Harding”\, and “Nashville Skyline”\, Charlie was there\, playing on these land-mark recordings. He was also heard on Simon and Garfunkle’s “The Boxer” in addition to many hits from genres other than country music.\nCharlie McCoy began recording for Monument Records in the late 60s and recorded 14 albums for the label\, beginning with “The World Of Charlie McCoy”. He won the Grammy in 1972 for his album\, “The Real McCoy”. He won CMA’s “Instrumentalist Of The Year” two times and the Academy Of Country Music’s “Specialty Instrument Award” seven times. He is a member of the “International Musician’s Hall Of Fame” and the “West Virginia Music Hall Of Fame”.\n\nIn addition to making his own recordings\, Charlie was a member of a legendary recording band\, “Area Code 615”. The band featured many of the top session players in Nashville.\nWhile Charlie predominately known as a harmonica player\, his musical prowess encompasses other instruments including guitar\, bass\, mallet percussion\, (vibes\, marimba\, bells\, Etc.)\, keyboards\, and various wind instruments.\nCharlie has toured in Europe and Japan regularly since 1989 and has released albums in France\, Denmark\, Germany and the Czech Republic.\nIn addition to “Hee Haw”\, Charlie served a music director for other television shows including “The Colgate Country Showdown” and “The Arthritus Telethon”. He was in the house band for the TNN show “Music City Tonight” with Crook and Chase.\nCharlie was given the “Musician” award from the Reunion Of Professional Entertainers” in 1994\, elected to the German-American Country Music Hall Of Fame in 1998\, The Hall Of Fame of the North American Country Music Association International in 2000\, the International Musicians’ Hall Of Fame and the Old Time Country Music Hall of fame in 2007\, and the West Virginia Music Hall Of fame in 2008.\nOn Feb. 4\, 2009\, it was announced that Charlie would be inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame along with Roy Clark and Barbara Mandrell.\nIf you need a harp on your record\, Charlie is “Still Harpin’”\nCHARLIE JOINS THE GRAND OLE OPRY\nCharlie was shocked and pleased on stage at the Grand Ole Opry on June 11\, 2022\, with the question many musicians dream of hearing but only few ever do: Will you become the next member of the Grand Ole Opry?\nHe accepted without missing a beat. He was invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry at the Saturday performance\, the first time in decades that two artists received an invitation during the same Opry broadcast\, per the show.\n“I’ve had so many amazing things happen but I wanna tell you what: This is the icing on my cake\,” he said on stage as he soaked in the moment.\nwww.charliemccoy.com\n\nSharing the stage with Charlie is ACMA’s own The Reckless Saints…Roy Schneider and Kim Mayfield.\nReckless Saints founder Roy Schneider was 16 and in hiding when a friend loaned him a guitar. He had just broken out of a Straight\, Inc. facility after a horrific year-long incarceration\, where he had been denied the right to play an instrument or even listen to music. Having access to a guitar again – as well as the support of good friends – helped him survive while he waited to turn 18\, and begin his lifelong love affair with making music. Schneider went on to pursue visual arts\, learning how to design toys in 3D\, and writing and drawing syndicated comic strip “The Humble Stumble” through United Media. Ultimately\, his passion for the many flavors of music that define the Americana genre\, combined with his innate ability to play most anything with strings\, led him to give up the ‘day jobs’ for a career in music.\nHe was making a living performing in local bars when Roy met Kim Mayfield. She added keyboard\, mandolin\, rhythm guitar\, harmony vocals\, and the idea to take the music on the road. The duo spent over a decade touring and recording 5 CDs of original music.\nReckless Saints\, the CD\, has hovered in the top 50 on Roots Music Reports Americana Country chart since shortly after its release\, and was included in their ‘Best of 2019’ and ‘Best of 2020’ lists. The album features production ‘Guidance Counselor’ Gurf Morlix on the lone cover- Blaze Foley’s Election Day. Other guest artists include Freebo (Bonnie Raitt) on bass and Country Music Hall of Famer Charlie McCoy on harmonica.\nRoy\, and/or the duo\, have shared stages/bills or opened for the likes of John McEuen (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band)\, Joe Craven\, Malcolm Holcombe\, Eilen Jewell Band\, Chuck Prophet\, Brothers Comatose\, and Charlie McCoy among others. Schneider accompanied folk icon Tom Paxton on his last solo tour in Florida after which Paxton pronounced him ‘one of those horrible people who seemingly can play anything they pick up and play it beautifully.”\nwww.therecklesssaints.com

SUMMARY:The Rough and Tumble in Concert! David Hintz Opens
DESCRIPTION:f its a teeny tiny traveling folk band coming to SW Florida then that means The Rough and Tumble are in town! With delight\, we announce their return to our ACMA stage. It doesn’t get any better than this. Welcome back!\nThe Rough and Tumble:\nWriting and performing together since 2007\, Mallory Graham and Scott Tyler inevitably formed The Rough & Tumble in 2011 as the friends turned into bandmates. In 2015\, after a bad Nashville landlord left them without heat for 12 days during an ice storm\, the bandmates turning spouses decided to hit the road. They sold everything they could\, bought a 16’ camper (despite the warning of their families and the lot salesman)\, packed up their instruments\, their dog\, and a couple of small trinkets shaped like elephants and mice that they couldn’t part with\, and hit the road. They’ve been touring relentlessly since with their two 100lb rescue dogs\, Mud Puddle and Magpie Mae\, in spite of multiple burnt up axles\, busted tires\, and consistent water leaks.\nOn February 19\, 2021 The Rough & Tumble dug into the severed branch of their family tree\, bringing their newest work\, We’re Only Family If You Say So\, a full length record about what it takes to be family– and what it means to lose it. As with their previous two albums\, it was recorded in East Nashville\, TN with producer/engineer Dave Coleman. With its release\, fans are Saying So. The raw\, emotive nature intersects with the sweet\, nearly upbeat tone that touches a nerve unfortunately familiar to listeners\, particularly in the aftermath of division in both nation and families alike.\nWe’re Only Family If You Say So follows on the 2019 release Howling Back at the Wounded Dog\, a 10-song album wherein response was audible\, with audiences literally howling back at performances coast-to-coast. The opening track “The Hardest Part” won the Independent Music Award’s Best Americana Song of 2019.\nIn 2022\, the duo is tackling less defined matters of the heart– love. When the 2020 pandemic hit\, The Rough & Tumble were dependent on the loyalty of fans to keep them afloat through song commissions. The latest EP\, Love is Gross (but it looks good on you) is a compilation of the sweeter songs Graham & Tyler were asked to write\, with a couple of nearly-love songs the couple wrote for themselves. The February 11th release was welcomed levity on the heels of the harder matters of their previous release– the balance feeling not unlike their live performances. They aren’t afraid to take an audience from the lighthearted to the gut wrenching\, and they do it seamlessly\, with care for their listeners and integrity to their craft.\nwww.theroughandtumble.com\nOpening the show is ACMA singer-songwriter\, David Hintz. David has been performing and writing songs since the mid 1960’s. For reasons he will never quite understand\, he put away pen and guitar for many years until the early 21st century. So after a 25 year hiatus David was coerced into going to an open mic in Fort Myers\, FL. Scared to death and being extremely shy he performed a few of his original songs and the world hasn’t been the same since.\nHis songs are about love found and lost\, divorce\, peace\, politics\, religion\, equality and rebirth. David writes and performs straight from the heart. Whatever the song topic the message is never sugar coated.\nhttps://www.davidhintzmusic.com\nDoor donations:\n$12 – Members\n$18 – General Public\nAdditionally\, tickets are available at the door.
