SUMMARY:Billy Kemp in concert. Bill Burkert Opens
DESCRIPTION:Another enthusiastic and unanimous thumbs up from the ACMA music committee snagged Billy a spot in our “high season” line up…Check him out!\nA Baltimore native and Tennessee resident\, Billy Kemp is a musician\, songwriter\, singer\, composer and producer. He is a multi-instrumentalist but is best known for his tasteful and inventive guitar playing. He performs passionate home made songs and compositions\, mostly roots music. \nBilly first made points in his hometown by forming the Paradise Pickers\, a hybrid of country and rock which released one record in 1980. During the ‘80s\, Billy followed his heart and went to Nashville. While based in Music City\, he toured internationally with Tommy Overstreet\, Terri Gibbs and Bandana. In town\, he performed on the Grand Ole Opry with Jeanne Pruett. \nBilly returned to Maryland in 1988 and released one album with the reformed Paradise Rockers before landing the spot as lead guitarist for renegade rock-n-roller Tommy Conwell and the Young Rumblers living the rock-star lifestyle. He composed and recorded music for Maryland Public Television and produced numerous CDs for regional artists in the Baltimore/DC area. \nHe also recorded and released two CDs on his own label\, Willbilly Records. In 2000 Billy formed a new roots-rock ensemble\, Willbilly—his nickname in high school because of his love for country\, folk and blues music. He also expanded his role as a producer and studio-owner\, establishing a successful recording facility in rural Maryland. \nFrom 2006-2016 Kemp wrote\, recorded and performed with the critically acclaimed\, Appalachian Folk duo\, Jeni & Billy. \nBilly released a new solo CD\, Another Life in August of 2017. \nIn 2018\, Billy released The Painter’s Bucket\, a collection of previously released and unreleased songs from 1983-2018. \nHis concerts include songs from his latest releases\, as well as selections from a rich and extensive back-catalogue. From Lone Star country to urban shuffles and Appalachian waltzes\, Billy remains a songwriter with a love of story.\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDIcMb0fiwc&feature=youtu.be\nwww.billykemp.com \nOpening musician Bill got his first guitar in 1963 — the 60’s may have left him\, but he never really left the 60’s. As young people do\, he bounced around from school to army to nowheresville —\nSomewhere along the line he picked up a “Travis” style for the right hand. He never performed or wrote songs. He worked for a resorts company in Ft. Lauderdale\, finally retired to Ft. Myers and discovered ACMA and the songwriters circle.\nThat is why you see him here today.\nTotally a product of ACMA!

In addition to being a fixture in Nashville studios for 48 years\, he also has his own recording career going full tilt. (He has recorded 35 solo albums.) He served as the music director for eightteen years for the syndicated television series\, “Hee Haw”. \nCharlie McCoy began working sessions in the early 60s\, one of the first being “Candy Man” by Roy Orbison. “Forty nine dollars”\, says Charlie. That’s how much I was paid for that session back in 1961. “It got Roy another hit and me a career. For a twenty year old to make $49 for three hours work back then\, it was a dream. \nShortly after the release of “Candy Man”\, Charlie became one of the in-demand session players in Nashville. His session credits are literally a who’s who of country music. For a fifteen year stretch\, he did more than 400 sessions a year. A grand total would number more than 12\,000. (and he’s still going) In the last twenty years\, he has been touring more with many appearances in Europe and Japan. \nIn addition to country sessions\, Charlie was a mainstay on Elvis Presley recordings both in Nashville and Los Angeles. When Bob Dylan recorded “Highway 61”\, “Blond On Blond”\, “John Wesley Harding”\, and “Nashville Skyline”\, Charlie was there\, playing on these land-mark recordings. He was also heard on Simon and Garfunkle’s “The Boxer” in addition to many hits from genres other than country music. \nCharlie McCoy began recording for Monument Records in the late 60s and recorded 14 albums for the label\, beginning with “The World Of Charlie McCoy”. He won the Grammy in 1972 for his album\, “The Real McCoy”. He won CMA’s “Instrumentalist Of The Year” two times and the Academy Of Country Music’s “Specialty Instrument Award” seven times. He is a member of the “International Musician’s Hall Of Fame” and the “West Virginia Music Hall Of Fame”. \nIn addition to making his own recordings\, Charlie was a member of a legendary recording band\, “Area Code 615”. The band featured many of the top session players in Nashville.\nWhile Charlie predominately known as a harmonica player\, his musical prowess encompasses other instruments including guitar\, bass\, mallet percussion\, (vibes\, marimba\, bells\, Etc.)\, keyboards\, and various wind instruments. \nCharlie has toured in Europe and Japan regularly since 1989 and has released albums in France\, Denmark\, Germany and the Czech Republic.\nIn addition to “Hee Haw”\, Charlie served a music director for other television shows including “The Colgate Country Showdown” and “The Arthritus Telethon”. He was in the house band for the TNN show “Music City Tonight” with Crook and Chase. \nCharlie was given the “Musician” award from the Reunion Of Professional Entertainers” in 1994\, elected to the German-American Country Music Hall Of Fame in 1998\, The Hall Of Fame of the North American Country Music Association International in 2000\, the International Musicians’ Hall Of Fame and the Old Time Country Music Hall of fame in 2007\, and the West Virginia Music Hall Of fame in 2008. \nOn Feb. 4\, 2009\, it was announced that Charlie would be inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame along with Roy Clark and Barbara Mandrell.\nhttps://www.charliemccoy.com\nRoy Schneider & Kim Mayfield\nTroubadour and formerly syndicated cartoonist Roy Schneider has developed a devoted fan base for his particular flavor of Americana music since 2008\, through international radio airplay and consistent touring with life-and-stage partner Kim Mayfield. Playfully dubbed “Blue-Twangled Folk ‘n’ Roll” in a 2014 No Depression interview\, Schneider & Mayfield have brought their musical blend of the gritty\, fun\, soulful and sweet to delighted audiences across the USA and abroad\, exploring and expanding their musical horizons with every performance.\nFrom ballads and dirges to grooves and hollerin’ rockers\, from intimate concerts and clubs to festival stages\, this multitalented duo clocks up thousands of miles annually from their home base in Fort Myers\, Florida\, toting an ever-evolving array of instruments wherever they are needed. With Schneider on guitar (or dobro\, mandolin or banjo)\, harmonica\, kick drum and vocals\, Mayfield on mandolin (or guitar\, ukulele or percussion) and vocals\, their sound does not suffer for lack of bandmates. Schneider & Mayfield are excited to release their long-anticipated first official Duo album later in 2018\, Reckless Saints. It will be the first to feature original compositions by Mayfield and includes some wonderful guest artists. Schneider’s early and current works can be heard on Pandora\, Spotify\, iTunes/Apple Music\, etc. in addition to public and college radio stations everywhere.\nSchneider’s songs have earned praise in the Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition (TX)\, Telluride Blues & Brews Acoustic Blues competition (CO)\, and Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist showcase (NY). The duo has performed official showcases at Folk Alliance conferences in New York\, Austin TX and Asheville NC. Other notable venues include Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe\, Northern England’s MAD Fest\, and season 5 of NBC’s The Voice. Schneider has raised over $20k through fan funding to produce and successfully promote 2012’s Walls That Talk and 2015’s Ten from the Pen. Both have received generous airplay and accolades from an impressive list of respected reviewers\, including No Depression and UK’s Maverick magazine.\nAlso a gifted accompanist\, Schneider has performed onstage with the talents of John McEuen (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band)\, Joe Craven (Garcia/Grisman)\, Tom Paxton\, Stevie Coyle (The Waybacks)\, Freebo\, Buddy Mondlock\, Gove Scrivenor and many others.\n“[Schneider’s] gift for blending Southern-influenced folk\, blues\, country\, and rock into a seamless genre with his own signature sound demonstrates his connection to the best in the tradition of fine wake-me-up and kick-me-in-the-ass roots music.” ~ No Depression

Americana music a coming together of blues\, roots\, folk and country. \nHouseboat Jim\, Elizabeth Lockhart\,  Ross Jordan \nRoss Jordan has been writing songs since he picked up a guitar at age 10. His songs reflect the regional influences from all of the parts of the country that he has lived from New Jersey to the West Coast o the Mid-West and now Southwest Florida\, His songs feature catchy tunes and lyrics and audience members can often be seen dancing and swaying and singing along while he performs. www.reverbnation.com/rossjordan \nHouseboat Jim\, played neighborhood bars and restaurants in 1957 and ’58 and then started playing in the Village\nuntil I moved to Texas in ’65. I quit playing in public for several years and started up again in Las Vegas.\nMet some good pickers there and played for about seven years. I retired and moved to Florida and started\nplaying and hosting open mics about eight years ago. I cut a CD two years ago and I’m playing around town\nregularly now. No plans of stopping. \nElizabeth Lockhart\n“Truly an original Elizabeth Lockhart’s eclectic\, life-long journey through music informs her distinctive blend of traditional folk with elements of classical\, world and blues music. Her sound combines soulful vocals\, an intricate finger picking guitar style and detailed storytelling that culminates into unique original compositions\, drawing listeners in even further through evocative and powerful narratives. There are simply no other musicians on the Southwest Florida scene delivering Lockhart’s style of music to audiences…”\nJohn Davis talk show host\, producer\, cellist Morning Edition NPR WGCU \nFor as long as she can remember\, music has been an integral part of Elizabeth Reece Lockhart’s life. When she was just\nsix years old\, her voice brought chills to audiences during solo performances as she delivered gospel music with a rich\, full vocal range. While in school\, she won numerous awards in state-wide vocal competitions. She was selected to open for Reba McEntire at age 12. Later\, she chose Opera Performance at North Carolina School of the Arts\, reaching the professional status of opera singer with the Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony Opera Theatre and the Piedmont Opera. \nElizabeth spent most of her early career teaching and performing classical music\, theatre and art song literature. But it was when she found folk/roots music that she was inspired to develop her self-taught guitar and writing style. Reminiscent of 60’s folk revival women icons such as Joan Baez\, Judy Collins\, and Joanie Mitchell\, Elizabeth Lockhart delivers this type of quality performance. She has the ability to tug at a listener’s heart strings through melodies\, stories and rich vocals that connect a listener to an authentic\, feeling place within oneself. \n“Her music always communicates. SUMMARY:Lipbone Redding in concert. Joe Virga opens
DESCRIPTION:Special event suggested donation $15/20. \nThe one and only Lipbone returns to our stage! He wowed us before and I believe he’ll do it again. “One man orchestra\, unplugged\, un expected” Here’s a bit more about Lipbone. \nIn his early twenties\, Lawrence “Lipbone” Redding migrated from North Carolina to New York City with his guitar. After a brief stint as an actor\, carpenter\, bartender and producer for the Museum of Sound Recording\, he promptly became a subway musician. \nFrom the swampy farmlands and beach towns of coastal North Carolina. Lipbone was steeped in the musical tradition of Soul\, Boogie and Blues. \nFrom 1998 to 2001 Lipbone honed his guitar and people skills amongst the underground caverns of New York City\, In 2002 his craft allowed him to travel and make a living wherever life took him: India\, Europe\, South America\, New Orleans\, San Francisco. Along the road\, he forged lifelong collaborative relationships with producers\, artists and masters around the globe. \nIn 2005 Lipbone Redding emerged into the vibrant East Village nightlife\, where he became a staple of the downtown music scene. From 2005-2012 he held a residency at the tiny but famous Jules Jazz Bistro on historic Saint Mark’s Place. Friday night and Sunday brunch with The Lipbone Orchestra became a regular happening frequented by hipsters and tourists alike. It was there amongst the champagne\, rowdy cabaret atmosphere and weekly packed house that Lipbone developed his signature jazzy Lip Trombone and unique style of musical storytelling. \nIn 2006\, In the East Village\, Lipbone met world famous producer Ahmet Ertegun\, founder of Atlantic Records (Ruth Brown\, Joe Turner\, The Clovers\, The Drifters\, The Coasters\, Ray Charles\, Ben E. King\, Solomon Burke\, Otis Redding\, Sam and Dave\, Percy Sledge\, Aretha Franklin\, Wilson Pickett\, Led Zeppelin). Ahmet\, on a date night with his lady\, motioned Lipbone to sit at his table. He offered his hand and confided “You play trombone with no trombone\, better than some trombone players that I know.” Lipbone took it as a blessing and hasn’t looked back since. \nIn 2007 Lipbone signed with Indie label\, Be-Pop Records\, founded by bass player and producer Jeff Eyrich (Natalie Cole\, Tanya Tucker\, T-Bone Burnett\, John Cale\, The Blasters\, The Plimsouls\, Dave’s True Story\, Cheech & Chong). 5 albums and a “Best Of” compilation have since been produced by Jeff and Be-Pop Records. It was also during this time that Lipbone teamed up with choreographer/dancer\, Bill T. Jones (Spring Awakening\, Fela!) to work on Chapel/Chapter. The live performance played to audiences worldwide and Lipbone\, along with the other collaborators\, won an OBIE award for Best Collaborative Performance. \nSince 2012\, in order to maintain a travel lifestyle 200 engagements per year\, Lipbone has returned to his roots and has sprouted new shoots. An uncanny vocal range\, a nylon string guitar\, a wooden spoon duct-taped to his foot and a lifetime of stories are all he needs to get the party started. \nLipbone Redding mostly tours as a solo act but collaborates regularly with other musicians and his trio\, The Lipbone Orchestra. He has shared the stage with many great artists including Marcia Ball\, John Mayall\, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band\, Tab Benoit\, Cyril Neville\, Jimmy Hall\, Jonathan Edwards\, Rita Wilson\, Shemekia Copeland\, Tommy Castro and others. \nLipbone has taken his singular vocal instrumental style to a new level by playing guitar and producing all of the instrument sounds while simultaneously singing and storytelling without the use of electronic effects nor a loop pedal. Really\, you should check him out. \nwww.lipbone.com

SUMMARY:Max Hatt and Edda Glass in concert. Pete Bensen Opens
DESCRIPTION:We are happy to welcome Max Hatt and Edda Glass to our stage for the first time! Once again 6 Thumbs UP from the music committee!\n“A unique sound” — Larry Groce\, NPR Mountain Stage\n“Beautiful… #chills” —Ann Powers\, NPR Music\n“You cannot confuse her with any other artist” —New York Theatre Guide\n“An incomparable spook” —Nashville Scene\nMax Hatt / Edda Glass have “an incomparable spook” (Nashville Scene) and “a unique sound” (Larry Groce\, NPR)\, comprised of Glass’s unmistakable voice and Hatt’s lyrical guitar. Originally based in Montana\, their award-winning original music and unique interpretations of American and Brazilian standards have taken them all the way to New York City’s Lincoln Center\, DC’s Kennedy Center\, NPR Mountain Stage\, Sundance Film Fest and Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival. Praised for her “impeccable vocal command” (PopMatters) and compared to a gamut of singers from Astrud Gilberto to Billie Holiday\, Glass’s voice is ultimately “one of a kind…you cannot confuse her with another artist” (New York Theatre Guide). Hatt’s equally distinctive guitar work combines the harmonic innovations of jazz with the melodic resonance of folk\, creating music that’s “subtly poignant\, elegantly funky\, and haunting without trying to be” (Nels Cline\, Wilco). Together\, Max Hatt / Edda Glass evoke a world that stretches from the beaches of Rio de Janeiro to the prairies of the American west\, telling stories of little people on great plains\, and leaving audiences with a feeling both light and deep. \nPast press/performances include: New York’s Lincoln Center\, DC’s Kennedy Center\, NPR Mountain Stage\, Sundance Film Festival (official ASCAP performer)\, Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival\, Daytrotter\, Huffington Post\, Relix Magazine\, MT-PBS\, NYC’s WFUV\, New York City Winery’s Cellar Sessions.\nhttps://maxhatteddaglass.com/presskit\nOpener TBA

SUMMARY:Claudia Schmidt Sorry This show is canceled
DESCRIPTION:Claudia Schmidt is not well and had to cancel.. \nWe are doing a FREE show with the Smokey Daytona Band opening\, and a ACMA Open mic . \n  \n“If it were the intention of the creator or creators of this universe to perfectly blend together the night sky with moon and stars\, it might have been their intention as well to deliver Claudia Schmidt as their messenger of reminder. \nTo say that Schmidt is simply a performer with a talent to entertain would be a miscarriage of understatement. Schmidt takes her audiences into her world as easily as the child who discovers the endless universes that exist in a cardboard box. \nFrom lying on sandy beaches under an endless barrage of northern lights\, to the expected anguish and frustration of spinning tires on cars stuck deep in snow\, from the age-old struggle of change between adolescence and adulthood to the observation of sheer idiocy\, she leaves it to the imagination of her audience to conjure their own images of her storytelling and song. No interpretation of a Claudia Schmidt song or story is wrong-she invites audiences to tie their associations to her style. \nSchmidt weaves her way through her concert in much the same manner as a jester. Interwoven anecdotes\, revealing her past and present\, bring people to expect a relationship between themselves and memories driven deep with the passage of time. The concert is an endless display of self-realization through humor and longing\, leaving audience members yearning to become an integral part of her world. Having performed on stages across the country\, Schmidt has developed the ability to remain fresh. She enjoys her talent to entertain as much as the audience enjoys being entertained.”\n(Door County Advocate\, Wisconsin) \nwww.claudiaschmidt.com \nACMA members The Smokey Daytona Band Opens
