SUMMARY:Hank Woji & Friends in Concert! Bill Frey Opens
DESCRIPTION:Hank Woji and Friends in Concert.…what a great way to kick off the partaking of March spring celebrations!\nJoining Hank for this special evening will be Roy Schneider & Kim Mayfield (Reckless Saints) on guitar\, dobro and mandolin and Jonathan Lawrence (Gulf Coast Symphony) on fiddle.\n\nA self-described “Jersey Shore Ex-Pat turned West Texas Desert Rat”\, Hank Woji cut his musical teeth as a bassist in the vibrant Asbury Park\, NJ music scene of the 1980s & 90s\, playing in some of the Garden State’s most dynamic and innovative bands\, while performing at festivals\, and in clubs and concert halls\, from Virginia to Ontario\, in styles ranging from Blues and R&B to Reggae and Rock & Roll to County Rock and Worldbeat!\nIn the Spring of 2001 Hank moved to Houston\, TX\, fell in with a community of great Texas songwriters\, and found a new musical voice as a Singer Songwriter. But\, destiny turned a page and it was his chance move\, in 2009\, to the far West Texas desert town of Terlingua that has most reshaped his life and his music.\nCritics have described Hank’s music as “acoustic-wielding\, sharply observed\, Americana all the way” and being “in the best tradition of the Texas troubadours like Guy Clarke\, Townes Van Zandt and Butch Hancock” and that “His troubadour style also comes very close to the style of Woody Guthrie or Pete Seeger\, or as we heard on ‘Nebraska’ from Bruce Springsteen.”\nHank has released six self-produced CDs: Medallion in 2005; American Dreams in 2008; There Was A Time in 2010; Holy Ghost Town in 2013; The Working Life in 2014; and most recently Highways\, Gamblers\, Devils and Dreams in 2023.\nOf his recently released 6th CD\, Tony Award winning songwriter\, Anaïs Mitchell says: “Highways\, Gamblers\, Devils and Dreams is a sprawling meditation on mythic American themes\, Hank is a warm-hearted and precise troubadour of the old school.” The album debuted in September 2023 at #5 on the Euro Americana chart and #3 on the FAI Folk Music chart.\nOver his 40+ year music career\, Hank has performed with such notable artists as:Jonathan Byrd\, Joe Jencks\, Sonny Kenn\, Hogan & Moss\, David Amram\, Spook Handy\, Jaimee Harris\, Susan Herndon\, Terry “Buffalo” Ware\, Grant Peeples\, Bob Livingston\, Rebekah Pulley\, Clarence Clemens\, Butch Hancock\, Jimmie Dale Gilmore\, Bruce Springsteen and Pete Seeger.\nHank is a proud member of AFM Local 1000 and tours nationally\, performing regularly at festivals\, coffeehouses\, theaters\, clubs and house concerts as a solo singer songwriter; in various duo and trio configurations; and with his TexAmericana Jam Band\, The Hank Woji Conspiracy.\nListen to some of his music:hankwoji.com\nOpening for Hank Woji & Friends is ACMA member Bill Frey!Bill started playing guitar/harmonica and song writing in 1960’s. Influenced by Miles Davis\, Billie Holiday\, Chuck Berry\, Harry Leahey\, Jimmy Smith\, Kenny Burrell\, Bob Dylan\, John Pilla\, Paul Butterfield\, and BB King\, his musical style remains eclectic but blues based. He has recorded and played venues in NYC\, Philadelphia\, up and down the Jersey Shore\, the Hamptons\, Boston and Burlington\, Vermont. SUMMARY:ACMA @ The Alliance presents The Honey Badgers. Fred Ball opens
DESCRIPTION:The ACMA is happy to welcome for the first time The Honey Badgers are a contemporary folk duo bringing their sincere Americana sound to stages across the east coast. The married duo is known for their intense\, sparkling harmonies\, their honest lyrics and melodies\, and their undeniable chemistry on and off stage. Weaving their voices together with Michael’s driving guitar and Erin’s wistful violin\, The Honey Badgers spin stories and songs about finding yourself\, finding each other\, and finding your way in the world. They were recently voted #1 “Most Wanted” at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist Showcase 2023 and were winners of the 2023 Delaware Public Media Homey Award for Best Folk Song.\n\nTicket Link. https://www.artinlee.org/.      $18-20.00\nOpening for The Honey Badgers is ACMA member musician Fred Ball.Fred Ball told us\, I got my musical start in Greenwich Village in the early 60s during “The Great Folk Scare”. Played primarily folk music until the late 60s when I started playing in a wedding band (if I ever have to play “The Shadow of Your Smile” again I might throw up). Married my wife (and 2 kids) now of 42 years and stopped playing in 1979 until 2005 when a friend who knew me from my job of teaching guitar at a local music store persuaded me to take my guitar out of mothballs and join him on stage for a few numbers. Foolish me thought it would all come back…..it did not! I did make the show and played a couple of songs (badly) but was now bitten by the bug.I recommitted myself to returning to form and have played steadily since then. I started to “play out” around 2008 and took vocal lessons since I been principally a guitar player in my bands. I ran a number of open mics in CT as well as played out as a solo “singer songwriter”.We moved to Florida in 2018 and I started out running the open mic at George and Wendy’s Sanibel Seafood Grill until COVID shut it down. I have played local gigs at Woody’s\, Hooked\, The Perch at The Wyvern in Punta Gorda\, and The Paradise Deli. I happily found the ACMA three years ago.Songwriting has become my passion and I spend time each day in pursuit of that! As a resident “old guy” my hands are now showing the ravages of age but will play until I cannot! You have to love what you do……..and I do!

SUMMARY:Rod Abernethy in Concert! Bill Burkert Opens
DESCRIPTION:It is the ACMA’s good fortune to have Rod Abernethy on our stage! Here is just one great reason: “His guitar playing evokes comparisons to such luminaries as Leo Kottke\, John Fahey\, and Tommy Emmanuel.” – Pop Matters\nRod Abernethy is a unique blend of an authentic southern folk troubadour\, master acoustic guitarist\, and award winning songwriter and composer for film\, TV and video games and the Overall Grand Prize Winner of the 2021 International Acoustic Music Awards. In 2019 he was the Grand Prize winner of American Songwriter’s Bob Dylan Song Contest. His last album Normal Isn’t Normal Anymore\, produced by Grammy nominated producer Neilson Hubbard (Mary Gauthier\, Kim Richey\, Glen Phillips)\, received rave reviews from No Depression\, American Highways and The Wall Street Journal and was the Top 20 CD of 2021 at No. 11 on the Folk International Folk Charts.\nRod’s talents go beyond being a dynamic performer\, vocalist\, instrumentalist\, and storyteller. He’s a prolific photographer\, a sculpture artist of whimsical steampunk found-object robots and a seasoned teacher and adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston Salem\, NC\, where he teaches how to score video games. As composer\, Rod has scored and produced music for countless television shows\, commercials and over 80 video games including the Electronic Art’s blockbuster hit “Dead Space” which won a BAFTA Award in 2009 for Best Use of Audio and Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” for Vivendi Universal which won the Game Audio Network Guild’s Video Game Soundtrack Of The Year in 2003.\nRod continues to perform live in acoustic venues and halls across the country. Past venues include The Woodstock Folk Festival (Woodstock\, IL)\, Club Passim (Boston\, MA)\, The Cat’s Cradle (Chapel Hill\, NC) and the ISIS Music Hall (Asheville\, NC). He is also a featured artist on this year’s popular PBS series\, Songs At The Center hosted by Eric Gnesda.\nTake a listen right here:https://rodabernethyguitar.com\nOpening for Rod Abernethy is our own Bill Burkert. Bill was born in Muskegon\, Michigan\, then moved to Tampa at age 11. Not too long later he got a guitar and the Alan Lomax book of 317 folk songs. A few years later his friend Joe showed him how to play something called “Travis” style. Later on Merle Travis DENIED having anything to do with how Bill plays guitar! Oh\, well…Some years later Bill moved to Fort Myers\, joined the ACMA\, and started writing and singing songs. Bill won the Bob Dylan look alike contest at our recent Bob Night! And was the stand out that night for playing the least known Dylan songs. Thoughtful choices. Beautifully covered!\nTickets for the show are available at the door. Door donations:Members/$15General Admission/$20\nThe listening room doors open at 6:30 pm and the concert begins at 7:00 pm
