SUMMARY:ACMA @ The Alliance presents: An intimate evening with Hank Woji & Roy Schneider
DESCRIPTION:Step into the living room for a different kind of concert.\nTwo veteran singer-songwriters invite you into their world—sharing stories\, influences\, and the music that shaped their lives. Hank Woji and Roy Schneider blend conversation and performance\, taking you behind the songs and into the creative process.\nDrawing from artists like The Grateful Dead\, Bob Dylan\, Neil Young\, and The Beatles\, they’ll perform selections that influenced them—alongside their own original songs that reflect those inspirations.\nExpect shared vocals\, traded verses\, and a rare\, behind-the-scenes look at how great songs leave their mark.\nThis isn’t a typical concert—it’s a curated\, story-driven experience with the feel of a living room and the heart of a songwriter’s circle.\nDoors: 6:30/Show 7:00Tickets at www.artinlee.org    \n$18 ACMA/Alliance members/$20 general public.\nHere’s a bit more about the musicians.\nA self-described “Jersey Shore Ex-Pat turned West Texas Desert Rat\,” Hank Woji cut his musical teeth as a bassist in the vibrant Asbury Park\, NJ music scene of the 1980s & 90s. In March of 2001 Hank moved to Houston\, TX and found his new musical voice as an Americana Singer Songwriter. But destiny turned a page and it was his chance move\, in 2009\, to the far West Texas desert town of Terlingua that has most reshaped his life and his music.\nCritics have described Hank’s music as “acoustic-wielding\, sharply observed\, Americana all the way” and being “in the best tradition of the Texas troubadours like Guy Clarke\, Townes Van Zandt and Butch Hancock” and that “His troubadour style also comes very close to the style of Woody Guthrie or Pete Seeger\, or as we heard on ‘Nebraska’ from Bruce Springsteen.”\nOf his recently released 6th CD\, Tony Award winning songwriter\, Anaïs Mitchell says: “Highways\, Gamblers\, Devils and Dreams is a sprawling meditation on mythic American themes. Hank is a warm-hearted and precise troubadour of the old school.” The CD debuted in September 2023 at #5 on the Euro Americana chart and #3 on the U.S. FAI Folk Music chart\, and his recording of “Terlingua Blues” was listed on Texas Monthly’s “Going To Big Bend Ultimate Playlist” in January of that year.\nOver his 25+ year songwriter career\, Hank has performed with such notable artists as: Jonathan Byrd\, Spook Handy\, Jaimee Harris\, Joe Jenks\, Bob Livingston\, Grant Peeples\, Sarah Lee Guthrie\, David Amram\, Butch Hancock\, Jimmie Dale Gilmore\, and Pete Seeger.\nHank tours nationally\, performing regularly at festivals\, coffeehouses\, theaters\, clubs and house concerts as a solo singer songwriter\, in various duo and trio configurations\, and with his full TexAmericana Jam Band – The Hank Woji Conspiracy.www.hankwoji.com\nRoy SchneiderReckless Saints founder Roy Schneider was 16 and in hiding when he began making music in earnest. He had just escaped a yearlong incarceration at a controversial facility for troubled teens called Straight\, Inc. where\, among many other things\, he had been denied the right to play his guitar\, listen to or even talk about music. The saintly woman who sheltered Roy after his escape (one of the original ‘Reckless Saints’) loaned him her son’s* guitar\, which he played obsessively\, teaching himself countless songs by Bob Dylan\, the Grateful Dead and The Beatles.\nA decade on\, Schneider had married\, divorced\, become a single father\, worked as a Happy Meal toy designer\,and for 3 years wrote and drew the syndicated single-dad comic strip The Humble Stumble (United Media). All the while he played covers in bars several nights per week. His passion for musical expression eventually drew his focus from the visual arts to writing more original music and finding an audience for it. Roy’s songs have thrice made him a Kerrville New Folk finalist and provided opportunities to make musical connections with dozens of artists. In the ‘Most Unexpected Gig Ever’ category is his 10-month prep and ‘blind audition’ for Season 5 of The Voice\, where he got no chairs but did get to perform on national television slinging his beloved and well-worn Martin OM-28. He’s opened for and/or accompanied John McEuen\, Charlie McCoy\, Joe Craven\, Malcolm Holcombe\, Verlon Thompson\, Freebo\, Buddy Mondlock… and Tom Paxton\, who\, after a short tour with Roy as his right-hand-man\, called him “one of those horrible people who seemingly can play anything they pick up and play it beautifully.”\nwww.recklesssaints.com
