SUMMARY:Jon Shain in concert @ The Planetarium Bob Williams opens
DESCRIPTION:The ACMA always is happy to have Jon Shain back\, this time in a new location…..The Planetarium at Calusa Nature Center.\n\nHailing from Durham\, NC\, Jon Shain is a veteran singer-songwriter who’s been turning heads for years with his words\, his fiery acoustic guitar work\, and his evolved musical style – combining improvised piedmont blues with bluegrass\, swing\, and ragtime. Jon has released nine solo albums to date\, along with two albums with duo partner FJ Ventre\, a Jon Shain Trio live album\, and one album of co-writes with Joe Newberry. Shain’s newest album\, Restless Soul Syndrome\, recorded at Good Luck Studio this past year\, was released April 9\, 2024. Shain is also the author of the music books Gettin’ Handy With the Blues – a Tribute to the Legacy of W.C. Handy and Jon Shain’s Fingerstyle Guitar Method\, both published by Mel Bay Publications. In 2019\, Shain won the International Blues Challenge in Memphis\, TN in the solo/duo category.\nACMA Member Musician Bob Williams is opening for Jon.In the late sixties\, Bob\, a young guitarist from Long Island\, NY\, began writing his own music as soon as he mastered three chords. Drawing inspiration from Folk-Rock and Country-Rock\, Bob crafted a unique sound influenced by the folk singers of the 60s and the singer-songwriters of the 70s. His writing evolved into what is now known as Americana Music\, a blend of Roots\, Folk\, Country\, Bluegrass\, Blues\, and everything in between. Over the past decade\, Bob has performed numerous concerts\, opened for national touring artists\, and regularly played with The Pearl Street Band. His songs have also been recorded and released by other artists. Known for sharing the amusing stories behind his lyrics\, Bob’s songs are personal\, irreverent\, funny\, sad\, and always heartfelt. His performances have been described as a mix of Neil Young and Crazy Horse with solo acoustic Bruce Springsteen. While that may be a stretch\, Bob’s passion is evident in his music. In his spare time\, when not writing music or performing gigs\, Bob is vice president of the ACMA and actively supports our member musicians and the organization. SUMMARY:Damon Fowler in Concert! JD Lashley Opens
DESCRIPTION:The ACMA is excited for Damon Fowler’s debut on our stage!\n“Fowler is as expressive a songwriter as he is a singer and instrumentalist. He’s preaching an otherworldly\, Americana-themed gospel from a six-stringed pulpit. He is a roots guitar guru.” -LIVING BLUES\nFlorida’s Gulf Coast has produced a plethora of distinctive musicians\, from the blues of Tampa Red to jazz greats Cannonball and Nat Adderley to former Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts to The Outlaws. Tampa’s Damon Fowler\, a masterful singer\, guitar player and songwriter\, has absorbed the best of and furthered the work of the region’s definitive artists. A hard driving troubadour\, his music is steeped with soul and representative of the many styles that make up the roots of American music. He gained the respect of his peers given his featured slot in Butch Truck’s Freight Train band and his side gig as guitarist in the Dickey Betts Band. Critics have compared Fowler’s guitar work to Johnny Winter and Jeff Beck\, while his slide guitar is reminiscent of the late Duane Allman. Fowler’s 2021 Landslide Records release\, Alafia Moon\, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart\, spent four months in the Top 20\, and was nominated for a BMA in the Blues/Rock category. His follow up record\, Damon Fowler & Friends\, LIve At The Palladium\, garnered strong airplay throughout the United States and Europe. The new release\, BARNYARD SMILE\, featuring 8 new original Fowler compositions plus distinctive covers of Bo Diddley and Jerry Reed tunes\, combines all of the influences that have shaped his distinctive blues career.\nOn the strength of Fowler’s hybrid of roots rock\, blues\, and sacred steel\, the Florida native started wowing audiences with his musical exploits as a teenager\, building a reputation as one of the hottest young players on the scene. Adding songwriting and vocal skills to his repertoire over the years has brought him many accolades\, with music journalists extolling his originality and maturity as well as his technical guitar expertise. Allmusic.com raved that “Fowler’s creative lap steel work is what sets him apart from the rest of the guitar heroes.”\n\n\n\nACMA member JD Lashley provides the perfect opener. If singer songwriter/ troubadour Todd Snider had dropped his kid brother on his head\, he’d have probably wound up a lot like JD Lashley. JD works hard and writes harder\, trying to pluck jokes and rhymes out of the grind. His style is heavily influenced by Americana and Roots music\, and he’s not afraid to sneak in a little Hip Hop… Something for everyone.\nTickets for this show are available at the door.\nDoor donations:$15/Members$20/General Admission\nThe doors to the ACMA listening room open at 6:30 PM and the show begins at 7:00 PM
