June is hot in SW Florida, but the ACMA has some cool news. Help us welcome first timer to our listening room stage, Grammy winner, Jason Wilber!
More about Jason Wilber:
In Wilber’s multi-decade journey with John Prine, the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer has graced stages from the Grand Ole Opry to Austin City Limits, Seth Myers & Conan to Letterman & Colbert. And he’s been a key player in high-profile collaborations with a host of legends including Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, Todd Snider, Tom Russell, Miranda Lambert, Susan Tedeschi, Josh Ritter, Kacey Musgraves & more.
For the third album in a row, latest 2023 is solo LP, Time Traveler,(after 2016’s Echoes and 2017’s Reaction Time), Wilber worked with longtime friend, producer and Bloomington, Ind., music-scene compatriot Paul Mahern.
Time Traveler, plays like a radio signal emanating from some distant outpost. Folk music from the future, with themes at once timeless and timely. Wilber strums stories from space stations and post-apocalyptic bunkers, alongside down to earth parables on the mysteries and truths of life. Wilber has had plenty of time to ponder the day dreams and fantastic journeys that wind up in his songs.
Alongside his singer/songwriter career Jason hosted the syndicated radio series, In Search of a Song, which featured long form interviews with singers, songwriters, musicians, and producers. He is also an activist, who along with artists like Willie Nelson, Gillian Welch, Kathy Mattea, Bonnie Rait, Tom T Hall and others contributed their talents to benefit the Alliance for Appalachia’s work to stop Mountain Top Removal in rural Appalachia.
Lonesome Highway writes, about Jason Wilbur “Widely considered one of the finest guitar players of his time”
We are hoping to put together a member only workshop with Jason… Stay advised.
Opening for Jason Wilber is our own Bruce Gallant. Bruce is an ACMA member and accomplished singer/songwriter. According to Gallant, “I started writing songs in my late 20’s and have never stopped. Anything of importance in my life is in my songs.
Writing and music are like breathing to me, they are what I need to get me through my life”. He is a driving force behind the success of our ACMA Singer/Songwriter Circle. Also a member of the ACMA Board of Directors. Thank you, for all you do, Bruce!
